Charlie is a friend of Donna Shoemaker and Jill, with a terrible secret in her past. |
|
Sam and Dean Winchester stops by the house after the funeral of Steven Shoemaker to question Donna about his death, with Charlie sitting with Donna. Later Charlie then confronts Sam and Dean upstairs in the bathroom where Steven had died, wondering who they really were (Steven was a day trader, worked alone), what they were up to, and what the weird questions were downstairs. She threatens to scream unless they reveal the truth. They tell her they were there trying to find out what happened to Donna's dad, but they don't know yet what it was, except it wasn't a stroke, and they were trying to stop it from happening to anyone else. Dean tells her if she wants to scream, go ahead. Charlie thinks a minute, and asks if they were cops, whereupon Sam gives her a phone number to call if she or any of her friends notice anything strange happens.
That night when Charlie is discussing the strange cute cops or detectives to Jill on the phone later, Jill starts taunting Charlie about the possibility of it actually being "Bloody Mary", teasing her about Charlie's fear. While Charlie tells her to quit it, Jill goes to her bathroom mirror and says "Bloody Mary" three times. After a moment, Jill screams, scaring Charlie. Then Jill laughs at Charlie, before hanging up.
The next day Charlie calls Sam's number, meeting them in a park to talk. She described Jill's death in tears, with Jill's eyes gone. Charlie confirmed Jill had said "Bloody Mary", that she heard Jill say it, but she couldn't believe Jill's death could be because of that. Charlie feels she's insane, but Dean assures her she isn't, which makes her feel so much worse. Charlie agrees to help them.
Charlie lies to Jill's mom, telling her she needs time with Jill's pictures and things, before she lets Sam and Dean into Jill's bedroom through a window. They are not sure what to look for. Sam shuts the curtains, and looking through night vision on the video recorder, looks to see if he can see anything while Dean pulls out the EMF reader. Charlie confirms to Dean that it was a joke, for Jill to say the words. After Dean wonders how Bloody Mary is determining her victims, Sam discovers a message on the back of the mirror with the aid of the black light from the trunk. It says, "Gary Bryman", although Charlie doesn't know who that is.
Sam shows back up in the park, asking Charlie about the 8 year old boy Gary Bryman's hit and run, describing the car used. Charlie is shocked to realize that it was Jill's car - a black Camry.
Afterwards they head back to Donna's house, looking at the back of the mirror off the bathroom sink. When the brothers find the name, "Linda Shoemaker", they ask Donna about it. Donna snaps that her mom overdosed on sleeping pills and died, as Charlie looks at the brothers. Donna yells at the boys to get out of her house, before running away. Charlie wonders if Donna's dad had anything to do with her mom's death. Charlie promises them she won't say it, but she feels that she needs to stick around Donna.
Donna is mad at Charlie, bringing those strangers into her house asking questions. Charlie assures her they were only trying to help. They fight about believing in Bloody Mary, so Donna Shoemaker says "Bloody Mary" three times in front of a mirror over Charlie's objections. After scoffing at Charlie and declaring there was something wrong with her, Donna leaves. However, Bloody Mary latches onto Charlie, knowing her secret.
Charlie starts seeing Bloody Mary in reflections in the school classroom. She freaks out, and seeks out Sam and Dean Winchester for protection. She fears Bloody Mary will kill her. Sam and Dean remove or cover all reflective surfaces in their motel room, trying to keep Charlie safe, but press her about her secret where someone got hurt. Charlie confesses she had a boyfriend who scared her. Once they got into a big fight, and he threatened to kill himself if she left him. She did not believe him, and left. He committed suicide. Sam and Dean head out to stop Bloody Mary while Charlie waits in their motel room.
Sam and Dean pick up Charlie from the motel room, and drive her back home. Dean assures her that this was really over, and she thanks him. After Charlie climbs out to head inside, Sam gives her advice to forgive herself, that she couldn't have stopped it. That bad things happen. She turns and heads back inside her house.
