Daniel Elkins was a hunter, who mostly hunted vampires. He taught John Winchester a lot about hunting, although they had a falling out. He has the Colt that John is looking for. He lives all alone up in the canyon, and sits at the bar every day going through his journal.

Biography

Late one July 2006 evening, while Elkins is sitting at the bar in his normal spot going through his journal, some vampires show up. He recognizes them, and runs. Driving back up to his cabin, he is really scared until he is able to get inside his cabin and close the door behind him. Dumping his newspapers and journal on the desk, he freezes before slowly turning to face Kate from the bar. He throws a knife into her chest, which does nothing, before racing to the other room and barricading himself in. Quickly opening the safe, he pulls out the Colt and begins to load it. Just as it's ready to use, two more vampires come crashing through his skylights and pin him down to the desk, causing him to drop the Colt. Kate picks it up and tells him the gun wouldn't do much good - little does she know! - before telling the vampires

Trivia

• Terence Kelly also portrays the Doctor in 3.15 Time Is on My Side.
• In Frontierland, Dean and Sam go back to 1861 and borrow the Colt from Samuel Colt and then use it to kill a phoenix. Dean drops the Colt just before he and Sam are transported back to the present day. In a deleted scene, Dean and Sam discuss the name Elkins and wonder if the saloon owner is a relative of the hunter Daniel Elkins. It is possible that the dropped Colt was retrieved by the saloon owner Elkins in 1861, and it's possible it was passed down to descendant Daniel Elkins.
