Mike Guenther half owned a garage with John Winchester before the fire killed Mary. After the fire, John sold his half of the garage to Mike, before disappearing.

Biography

Mike Guenther is visited by Dean and Sam at the garage, posing as cops re-investigating the disappearance of John Winchester. Mike tells them some of his memories of John Winchester. John was stubborn, and he hated to lose whatever game he played. He loved Mary and doted on the boys. Right after the fire John went into shock, but afterwards he told Mike that something caused the fire, that John didn't believe it was an electrical short. He started reading strange old books and went to a palm reader. When they asked if he knew a name, he told them he didn't know.

Mike did tell them that he called Social Services on the Winchesters. John had sold his half of the garage and bought guns, saying he was worried about his family. However, before Social Services did anything, John took off with the boys and vanished. Mike still thinks of them time to time, and hoped that John got well. Dean is a bit pissed over this new information, asking why and telling Mike that John was never sick. Sam thanks Mike for the information, and they leave.

Trivia

• There is a snippet more of the interview with Mike from Dean and Sam, under the "deleted scenes".
• Listed in John's Journal is a wife for Mike, named Kate Guenther. Also listed was that the Winchesters stayed with Mike and his wife right after the fire, until John was able to get back on his feet.
• Also in John's Journal, Mike was trying to get John to get help, that Mike thought John was nuts. Mike also said something to Kate, because Kate was also trying to get John some help.
• Don Thompson, who plays Mike Guenther, also played Sheriff Jake Miller in LARP and the Real Girl.
• It is questionable if John sold his half of the garage to Mike, or gave it to him. In the deleted scene Mike tells Dean and Sam that John sold Mike his half of the garage, and he started building his arsonal. But the entry in John's Journal mentions Mike ragging on John to come to work, and John not caring. John then explodes and writes if Mike cares about the garage so much, then John will just give it to him.
