Singer Salvage
Singer Salvage Yard, also seen written as Singer Auto Self Service Salvage Yard on a sign in Everybody Loves a Clown, is owned and operated by Bobby Singer in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He also lives in a house on the premises. The street address is unclear, but a plaque above the porch gives the house number as 2194 in Dream a Little Dream of Me. There are quite an impressive display of cars, sometimes stacked up 3 or 4 vehicles high, in disrepair all over the yard, which consists of several acres. Trees and a wooden fence surround the property. There are several outbuildings which include the garage and a paint shed, as well as a woodshed. Bobby lived there as a child, as seen in a relived memory in Death's Door when he killed his father to protect his mother. Bobby buried his father out behind the woodshed. Bobby lived there with his wife Karen for many happy years, before she, too, was killed by Bobby during a demon possession. At this point, Bobby became a hunter, so his "regular" job took a backseat, although he kept it up for appearances.
Bobby's house has a ground floor, an upper story, and a basement. The main entrance opens into a short entrance hall that leads to the ground floor living room; there is also a basement entrance to the house. Inside the house is filled with bookcases containing a library of monster, lore, religion, and demon related books, including the Key of Solomon except when Bobby loans it to Sam. More books are stacked on the floor up to waist-high in spots, a total of five to six thousand books in the house, even going up the staircase. Bobby also has some Reader's Digest for lighter reading.
On the ground floor, there is a living room, a kitchen, a hall closet under the stairs, and a large wooden staircase leading to the second floor. There are really detailed moldings and rich woodwork, custom made dark red patterned wallpaper from New York, a few landscape paintings, great furniture and a wonderful fireplace, none of which can be properly seen because it's all cluttered. In the living room, papers are pinned to the walls between the large, curtained windows. A red sofa can be seen against one wall. Bobby's desk occupies a position in front of the living room fireplace. A magnifying swing arm lamp is attached to the desk.
The kitchen, just off the living room though pocket sliding doors, has a table, white cabinets and freestanding cupboards. It has green patterned wall paper, and has white shuttered windows. Bobby has a wall of five cordless phones in the kitchen, each labeled with a different government agency and alias. From left to right: a white cordless FED MARSHALL with the alias Bill Sumner, a black cordless FBI with the alias Tom Willis, a black cordless phone marked CDC with the alias Frank Castle, a white cordless Police phone marked Pete Lovell, and finally a black cordless Health Department phone with the alias Lou Dunbar. He also has a black cordless phone that seems to be a home phone, as well as a black corded old-fashioned phone on his desk as his home phone. When a hunter is pretending to work for the FBI or other agency, they give a number to one of the phones and Bobby answers as their superior. Another desk and bookcase are also on one side of the kitchen. When Bobby was a boy, the kitchen had dark wood cabinets and doors, but they have since been painted white. There is a small, 1960s era white refrigerator and a matching stove. The knife drawer contains a false bottom, concealing hemlock, opium, wormwood, and other herbs. In The French Mistake, Balthazar finds a jar of lamb's blood in the fridge, and vertebra of lesser saint in the desk drawer. "Your Mr. Singer does keep a beautiful pantry," he comments.
The upper story of the house consists of rooms branching off a sconce lit hallway. At least one is a bedroom. Bobby mentions to assume all decor is loaded, so he may have guns mounted on the walls. At one end of the hall is an array of stained glass windows. During the year he was paralyzed, Bobby slept downstairs in the living room, on a bed specifically set up for him.
The basement is an unfinished storage space except for a large ghost and demon proof panic room, which Bobby built during "a weekend off". Over time, Bobby has made other modifications to the house. Sometime after Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Bobby placed a trap door in front of the hall closet that can be triggered by a lever inside the closet. The trap door opens into the basement, which he equipped with a steel core door and titanium kick plate.
