Mary runs up the stairs and into Sam's nursery.
John gives baby Sam to Dean.

John: Take your brother outside as fast as you can! Now, Dean, go!
Dean runs downstairs with Sam. John looks back.
WHAT THEY WITNESSED
Mary burns on the ceiling.
John: Mary! No!
John watches the nursery burn, Mary with it.
SENT TWO BROTHERS
On Sylvania Bridge, Dean and Sam turn to face the onlookers.
In Sam's apartment, Dean speaks to Sam and Jess.

Dean: Dad's on a hunting trip.
Outside Constance's house, Dean fires through the Impala's window at Constance.
In Sam's bedroom, Sam pulls out his curved knife.
In Sam's apartment, Dean speaks to Sam and Jess.

Dean: And he hasn't been home in a few days.
Sam: Jess, excuse us.
ON A QUEST FOR ANSWERS
22 YEARS LATER
In the stairwell from Sam's apartment, Sam speaks to Dean.
Sam: I swore I was done hunting.
In the Impala, Constance tries to rip Sam's heart out.
Sam: For good.
Dean: I can't do this alone.
In Sam's bedroom, Jess speaks to Sam.
Jess: And now you're taking off in the middle of the night to spend the weekend with them?
Sam: Hey. Everything's going to be okay. I promise.
Outside, the Impala drives along a two-lane road.
Sam (voiceover): You think Mom would have wanted this for us?
In John's motel room, Sam looks at the photo John left of the three Winchesters.
Sam (voiceover): Dean, we were raised like warriors.
In Sam's apartment, Sam packs his curved knife.
On Sylvania Bridge, Dean talks to Sam.

Dean: You have a responsibility.
In 1983, John and Dean sit on the hood of the Impala, John holding Sam.
Sam (voiceover): To Dad? And his crusade?
On Sylvania Bridge, Sam talks to Dean.
Sam: Even if we do find the thing that killed her, Mom's gone. And she isn't coming back.
Dean grabs Sam by the collar and shoves him up against the railing of the bridge.
Dean: Don't talk about her like that.
In the Jericho county sheriff's office, the sheriff throws down John's journal. The sheriff flips some of the pages.
Dean (voiceover): Dad's gone. I've got his journal. He left me a message.
In the Impala, Sam compares the coordinates in the journal to a map.
Sam (voiceover): These coordinates he left us, it's weird, man.
In John's motel room, Sam talks to Dean.
Sam: Hey Dean? What I said earlier, I'm sorry.
Dean raises a hand.
Dean: No chick-flick moments.
Sam laughs.
In Sam's apartment, Sam lets himself in.

Sam: Jess?
In Sam's bedroom, he lies on the bed, eyes closed, and sighs. Blood drips on his forehead and he flinches, opens his eyes, and gasps in horror. Jess is pinned to the ceiling, bleeding.
Sam: No!
Outside Sam's apartment, Dean watches the firefighters handle the situation, then goes to Sam at the Impala. Sam looks up. He tosses it in the trunk. The shot is from the inside the trunk, looking up at the brothers who are looking into the trunk.
Sam: We've got work to do.
Sam shuts the trunk.

SUPERNATURAL

Blackwater Ridge Lost Creek, Colorado

In the other tent, a third yound man, Tom Collins, records a video message on his cell phone.
Tom: Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge.
Something dark flicks behind the tent wall behind Tom, too fast to be identifiable as more than 'something dark'; the screen on Tom's phone, displaying the video as Tom records it, caught it.
Tom: We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow.
Tom stops recording and sends the message.

INT. TENT #1 - NIGHT

Brad follows the rustling with his eyes, suddenly is horror-struck and scream as something attacks.

INT. TENT #2 - NIGHT and INT. TENT #1 - NIGHT, alternating
Inside Tom's tent, Tom, who is reading Joseph Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces, hears Brad scream.
Inside Gary's tent, Gary hears the same and rolls over.

Gary: Brad?
Tom sits up.
Tom: Gary, what's goin' on?
Gary opens the tent and sticks his head out to look around. He sees nothing. Growling. He looks up. Something pulls Gary out of the tent. He screams.
Tom turns out the lantern he had on. Shadows move very quickly around the outside of Tom's tent. Tom looks around, his eyes following the shadows and growling. Tom pants with fear. Silence falls. Something slashes open Tom's tent. Tom screams, falling back and looking up at it.

ACT ONE

Palo Alto, California
EXT. CEMETERY - DAY
Birds chirp. Sam, wearing a suit and tie and carrying a bouquet of various flowers excluding roses, walks through an otherwise deserted cemetery.

JENSEN ACKLES
Sam sighs and stops next to a gravestone. It reads "JESSICA LEE MOORE", "Beloved Daughter", "January 24th 1984 - November 2nd 2005". There is a small picture of a grinning Jess set into the stone above her name, a black-and-white picture of her leaning against the stone between a white teddy bear and a wooden box with a crucifix leaning on the picture, a small American flag next to the box, and three candles standing on the gravestone; one is of the Virgin de Guadalupe.

Sam: I, uh...

Sam laughs and looks at the flowers.
Sam: You always said roses were, were lame, so I brought you, uh...
Credit:ALDEN EHRENREICH (Ben Collins)
Sam looks at the picture set into the gravestone, then looks away, choking back tears. He gives a sad laugh at himself. He steps closer to the gravestone.
Sam: Jess...oh God...
Sam kneels to set down the flowers. He is breathing heavily, fighting tears.

Sam: I should have protected you. I should have told you the truth.
Sam leans the flowers in front of the crucifix. An arm covered in dirt shoots out of the ground and grabs Sam by the wrist. He screams.

IMPALA

INT. IMPALA - DAY
Sam jerks awake. It is 10 Nov 2005, he is riding shotgun next to Dean, Foreigner's "Hot-Blooded" is playing, and the cemetery visit is days behind them if it ever occurred.
Music:I'm hot-blooded, check it and see
I got a fever of a hundred and three
Come on, baby, do you do more than dance?
Sam blinks and rubs his eyes. Dean looks over, concerned.
Dean: You okay?

Sam laughs. They each take turns looking at the other, not sure how to act.
Music:Honey, you oughta know
Sam: Dean, your whole life you never once asked me that.
Dean gets defensive, pulling back into himself and fixing his eyes on the road.
Dean: Just thought you might want to. Never mind.
Music:Now you move so fine
Sam: Look, man, you're worried about me.
Music:Let me lay it on the line
Sam: I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly okay.
Music:I wanna know
Dean: Mm-hm.
Music:What you're doing after the show
Dean presses his lips together. Sam glances around, then he grabs a map.

Dean: We are just outside of Grand Junction.
Music:We can make a secret rendezvous
Sam folds down the map, which is of Colorado and has a large red X labeled 35-111. He sighs.
Sam: You know what?
Music:Just me and you
Sam: Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon.
Music:I'll show you lovin' like you never knew
Dean: Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica-
Sam: We gotta find Dad first.

Sam: These coordinates he left us.
Music:Hot-blooded
Sam: This Blackwater Ridge.
Dean: What about it?
Sam: There's nothing there. It's just woods.
Sam puts down the map.
Sam: Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?
The brothers look at each other, baffled.

EXT. IMPALA - DAY
The Impala's engine gets louder as it comes up to the curve. They drive past the National Forest sign that says, "Welcome to LOST CREEK COLORADO National Forest". The tires squeal on the curve. Scene fades out.

RANGER STATION

EXT. RANGER STATION - DAY
Scene fades in. The Impala is parked next to a sign that says "RANGER STATION Lost Creek Trail, Lost Creek National Forest".
Sam (voiceover): So Blackwater Ridge is pretty remote.

INT. RANGER STATION - DAY
Sam looks at a 3D map of the national forest, paying particular attention to the ridge labeled "BLACKWATER RIDGE". Dean looks at the decorations.
Sam: It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place.
Dean: Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear.
Sam looks over. Dean is looking at a framed photo of a man standing behind a much larger bear. Sam comes to stand next to Dean.
Sam: And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area.
Sam sighs.
Sam: It's no nature hike, that's for sure.
They are quiet, thinking. A forest ranger, Ranger Wilkinson, walks up behind them; when he speaks, Dean and Sam whip around, startled.
Ranger: You boys aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?
Sam: Oh, no, sir, we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper.
Sam laughs a little. Dean grins and raises a fist.
Dean: Recycle, man.
Ranger: Bull.
Sam's eyes flick to Dean, who doesn't move.
Ranger: You're friends with that Haley girl, right?
Dean considers.
Dean: Yes. Yes, we are, Ranger-
Dean checks the Ranger's nametag.
Dean: Wilkinson.
The ranger gives a huff, looking away for a beat before focusing on the boys again.
Ranger: Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?
the ranger throws out his arms wide. Dean shakes his head.
Ranger: You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine.
Dean: We will. Well that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?
The ranger shakes his head in disbelief.
Ranger: That is putting it mildly.
Dean: Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date.
The Ranger eyes Dean. Dean raises his eyebrows.

EXT. RANGER STATION - DAY
Dean and Sam leave the ranger station. Dean is folding a piece of paper and laughing.
Dean: Yeah!
Sam: What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?
Dean: What do you mean?
Sam: The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?
Dean and Sam stop on opposite sides of the Impala.
Dean: I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?
A pause.
Sam: What?
Dean: Since when are you all shoot first ask questions later, anyway?
Sam: Since now.
Sam turns away; the sound of the car door opening is heard.
Dean: Oh, really?
Dean smiles to himself as he walks back to the car.

COLLINS HOUSE

EXT. COLLINS HOUSE - EVENING
A knock is heard. Dean and Sam are standing at the door to a house. The door opens to reveal Haley Collins.
Dean: You must be Haley Collins. I'm Dean, this is Sam, we're, ah, we're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. We wanted to ask you some questions about your brother Tommy?
Haley hesitates.
Haley: Lemme see some ID.
Dean pulls out a fake ID with the name 'Samuel Cole' and holds it up against the screen.
Dean: There ya go.
Haley looks at it, then at Dean, who smiles. Haley opens the door.
Haley: Come on in.
Dean: Thanks.
The door swings open; Haley catches sight of the Impala.
Haley: That yours?
Dean: Yeah.
Dean smiles at her. Sam is looking back at the Impala.
Haley: Nice car.
Haley turns to lead Dean and Sam into the kitchen, where Ben Collins is sitting at the table on a laptop. Dean turns his head to mouth something to Sam (Babe?), who rolls his eyes.
Sam (voiceover): So if Tommy's not due back for a while,

INT. DINING ROOM - EVENING
Sam: how do you know something's wrong?
Sam turns to face Haley, as she comes back into the room with a bowl she places on the table. Ben is sitting at the table, waiting to eat supper. Dean is standing across the room, in front of a china cabinet.
Haley: He checks in every day by cell. He emails, photos, stupid little videos, and we haven't heard anything in over three days now.
Sam: Well, maybe he can't get cell reception.
Haley: He's got a satellite phone, too.
Dean: Could it be he's just having fun and forgot to check in?
Ben: He wouldn't do that.
Dean eyes Ben. Ben looks away. Haley puts more food on the table.
Haley: Our parents are gone. It's just my two brothers and me. We all keep pretty close tabs on each other.
Sam: Can I see the pictures he sent you?
Haley: Yeah.
On a laptop, Haley pulls up pictures.
Haley: That's Tommy.
Haley clicks twice and another picture comes up, then the still frame opening the latest video.
Tom: Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge. We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow.
Sam spots the shadow flicking past.
Dean: Well, we'll find your brother. We're heading out to Blackwater Ridge first thing.
Haley: Then maybe I'll see you there.
Dean flicks his eyes up to Sam, who returns Dean's concerned look. Dean then looks at Haley.
Haley: Look, I can't sit around here anymore. So I hired a guy. I'm heading out in the morning, and I'm gonna find Tommy myself.
Dean eyes her with appreciation.
Dean: I think I know how you feel.
Sam: Hey, do you mind forwarding these to me?
Haley: Sure.
Sam looks down at the computer, concerned.

BAR

INT. BAR - NIGHT
"Down South Jukin': by Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing. Someone breaks a game of pool. A stuffed bear on the wall is seen. A waitress goes past carrying beer. A woman with a tight outfit on walks past a guy in a cowboy hat.
Sam (voiceover): So, Blackwater Ridge
Sam and Dean sit down at a table. Sam pulls out the journal from his bag.
Sam: doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers, mostly. But still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found.
Sam opens John's journal.
Dean: Any before that?
Sam pulls out newspaper articles to show Dean.
Sam: Yeah, in 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack.
Dean reads the headline in The Lost Creek Gazette.
GRIZZLY BEAR ATTACKS!
UP TO EIGHT HIKERS VANISH IN LOST CREEK AREA
HIKERS DISAPPEARANCE BAFFLE AUTHORITIES'
Families continue search and rescue efforts in spite of disappointing [...]
Sam pulls out his laptop.

Sam: And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936.
Sam opens the laptop, which already has a window open to Tom's video.
Sam: Every twenty-three years, just like clockwork.
Dean makes a face, half impressed. His eyebrows are furrowed with thought.
Sam: Okay. Watch this. Here's a clincher.
Dean looks up from the newspaper to look at the computer. Sam pulls up the video and plays it. A blur crosses the screen.
Sam: I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop.
Dean: Yeah?
Sam: Check this out.
Sam pulls up the video and goes through three frames of the video, one at a time. A shadow crosses the screen. Dean is studying it closely, bringing up his left hand to rub at his face.
Dean: Do it again.
Sam repeats the frames.
Sam: That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move.
Dean hits Sam. Sam looks up.
Dean: Told you something weird was going on.
Sam: Yeah.
Sam closes the laptop.
Sam: I got one more thing.
Sam hands over another newspaper article.
Sam: In 'fifty-nine one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive.
Dean is nodding slightly, while he looks at The Lost Creek Gazette. His eyebrows draw down.
Dean: Is there a name?
Sam gives Dean a knowing look.

SHAW HOUSE

INT. HOUSE - NIGHT
An old man, Mr. Shaw, talks to Sam and Dean while leading them inside his house. Shaw has a cigarette in his mouth. Dean closes the squeaky door behind himself, before turning to face Mr. Shaw as he talks.
Shaw: Look, ranger, I don't know why you're asking me about this. It's public record. I was a kid. My parents got mauled by a-
Sam interrupts.
Sam: Grizzly? That's what attacked them?
Shaw takes a puff of his cigarette, takes it out, waits a beat, and nods shakily, not very convincingly. He turns to face the boys. Dean takes a couple of steps forward.
Dean: The other people that went missing that year, those bear attacks too?
Aa awkward pause, as Shaw looks down.
Dean: What about all the people that went missing this year?
Shaw looks guiltily up at Dean. Sam looks around the house. Dean's arms briefly go wide, before falling down by his side.
Dean: Same thing?
A pause. Shaw is warily watching Dean and Sam.
Dean: We knew what we were dealing with, we might be able to stop it.
Shaw faces Dean head on, taking his cigarette out of his mouth, confident that he knows something the boys don't.
Shaw: I seriously doubt that. Anyways, I don't see what difference it would make.
Shaw sits down. Dean glances back at Sam, who slowly is walking forward.
Shaw: You wouldn't believe me. Nobody ever did.
Shaw adjusts himself in the chair, half looking away. Sam walks over slowly, before he sits down across from Shaw. He is giving Shaw an earnest face, getting him to open up.
Sam: Mr. Shaw, what did you see?
Shaw pauses, breathing heavily. He then shakes his head slowly.
Shaw: Nothing. It moved too fast to see. It hid too well. I heard it, though. A roar.
Sam half glances back at Dean, but focuses back on Shaw.
Shaw: Like... no man or animal I ever heard.
Sam: It came at night?
Shaw nods.
Sam: Got inside your tent?
Shaw: It got inside our cabin. I was sleeping in front of the fireplace when it came in. It didn't smash a window or break the door. It unlocked it.
Sam slowly turns and looks up at Dean, who locks eyes with SAm before he looks to the side. Sam turns back to Mr. Shaw.
Shaw: Do you know of a bear that could do something like that? I didn't even wake up till I heard my parents screaming.
Sam: It killed them?
Shaw: Dragged them off into the night.
Shaw shakes his head.
Shaw: Why it left me alive... been asking myself that ever since.
Sam looks down. Shaw looks down. Shaw's hands go to his collar.
Shaw: Did leave me this, though.
Shaw opens his collar to reveal three long scars. Claw marks. Sam looks up at them, and pulls back in horror. Dean looks at the claw marks, as if he's something similar before.
Shaw: There's something evil in those woods.
Shaw nods. Dean nods imperceptibly. Sam looks from Dean toward Shaw, feeling sick.
Shaw: It was some sort of a demon.

LATER

INT. MOTEL? - NIGHT
Dean and Sam walk the length of a corridor with rooms on either side. As they are talking, they occasionally look to the other one.
Dean: Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside, they just go through the walls.
Sam: So it's probably something else, something corporeal.
Dean: Corporeal? Excuse me, professor.
Sam: Shut up. So what do you think?
Dean: The claws, the speed that it moves...
A baby starts crying.
Dean: could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog. Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature, and it's corporeal. Which means we can kill it.
The baby's cries stop.

EXT. PARKING LOT - NIGHT
Dean walks back and opens the trunk of the Impala, then the weapons box. He hears a noise and looks around, before he props it open with a shotgun. He puts some guns in a duffel bag. Sam leans in.
Sam: We cannot let that Haley girl go out there.
Dean: Oh yeah? What are we gonna tell her? That she can't go into the woods because of a big scary monster?
Sam: Yeah.
Sam gives Dean a serious look. Dean looks at Sam.
Dean: Her brother's missing, Sam. She's not gonna just sit this out. No, we go with her, we protect her, and we keep our eyes peeled for our fuzzy Predator friend.
Sam looks at Dean as if he can't believe he's hearing this. Dean picks up the duffel.
Sam: So finding Dad's not enough?
Sam pulls the shotgun out and throws it down, slams the weapons box shut, and then the trunk.
Sam: Now we gotta babysit too?
Sam gives him a challenging look. Dean stares at Sam.
Sam: What?
Dean: Nothing.
He throws the duffel bag at Sam and walks off, shaking his head in disbelief. Sam stares after him. Scene fades out.

FOREST

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Scene fades in. It's a small mountain, seen taller than the pine trees in the mid distance.
Roy (voiceover): I'll tell you again, I don't think Ben should come.
A man, Roy, talks to Haley (who is wearing shorts) and Ben while checking a shotgun. The Collins are all carrying full backpacks, strapping them securely on.
Haley: Roy-
He turns around to face her.
Roy: Look, you're paying me good money to keep everybody safe. I think Ben's safest at home.
The Impala pulls up. Roy, Haley, and Ben stare. Haley puts her hands on her hips and shakes her head. Sam and Dean get out of the car. Sam opens the back door of the Impala and pulls out the duffel bag.
Dean: You guys got room for two more?
Haley: Wait, you want to come with us?
Roy: Who are these guys?
Haley: Apparently this is all the park service could muster up for the search and rescue.
Sam heads past everyone.
Roy: You're rangers?
Dean: That's right.
Haley: And you're hiking out in biker boots and jeans?
Dean looks down at himself.
Dean: Well, sweetheart, I don't do shorts.
Dean smiles and heads past Haley. The two pass looks, Dean flirting, Haley isn't sure.
Roy: What, you think this is funny? It's dangerous back country out there. Her brother might be hurt.
Sam turns back.
Dean: Believe me, I know how dangerous it can be. We just wanna help them find their brother, that's all.
Dean heads past Sam. Roy looks uncomfortable towards the Collins, before giving in.

MINE

INT. MINE - DAY
A mine shaft lets in light. Tom and Gary are hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. There are assorted corpses with them. Growling. Gary spots a tall skinny shadowy shape from the scattered sunlight and starts breathing heavily. He is pulling at his bound wrists, trying to escape, before he starts yelling. There is a sound of bones crunching, of a creature feeding, as Gary continues to yell. Tommy does his best to turn away. He is fighting tears, grimacing, before he closes his eyes tightly, trying to block out the sight and sound.
Scene fades to black.

ACT TWO

FOREST

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Scene fades in. The group hikes through the forest, Roy in the lead, then Dean, Haley, Ben, and Sam bringing up the rear.
Dean: Roy, you said you did a little hunting.
Roy: Yeah, more than a little.
Dean: Uh-huh. What kind of furry critters do you hunt?
Roy: Mostly buck, sometimes bear.
Roy is being cautious as he's walking, checking out the surrounding area. While Roy is looking left, Dean passes Roy.
Dean: Tell me, uh, Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?
Dean is being a smart-aleck. Roy grabs Dean, yanking him back. Dean turns to face Roy's serious face. Sam takes a step, but stops and only looks on.
Dean: Whatcha doing, Roy?
Roy grabs a stick and pokes the bear trap Dean had almost stepped in, springing it with a loud CLANK. Haley and Ben jump. Roy gives Dean a knowing smirk.
Roy: You should watch where you're stepping. Ranger.
Dean smiles slightly, giving a smart aleck look at Roy. Roy drops the stick and retakes the lead. Dean turns back to jokingly tell the others.
Dean: It's a bear trap.
Dean is acting like it's a lark. They hike on - first Dea, then Haley, Ben, and finally Sam. Sam isn't amused, staring at the bear trap until he passes it. Haley catches up to Dean.
Haley: You didn't pack any provisions. You guys are carrying a duffel bag. You're not rangers.
Haley grabs Dean's arm, stopping him and turning him to face her.
Haley: So who the hell are you?
Ben goes past Haley and Dean. Sam looks at Dean, who indicates with his expression that Sam's to go on by; Sam obeys. Dean watches him go for a moment.
Dean: Sam and I are brothers, and we're looking for our father. He might be here, we don't know. I just figured that you and me, we're in the same boat.
Haley: Why didn't you just tell me that from the start?
Dean: I'm telling you now. 'sides, it's probably the most honest I've ever been with a woman.
Dean thinks a moment, his eyes rolling up, before facing her again.
Dean: ...ever. So we okay?
Dean gives her a serious look. She looks back at him, considering for a moment.
Haley: (softly) Yeah, okay.
Dean: And what do you mean I didn't pack provisions?
Dean pulls out a big bag of peanut M&Ms and sticks his hand in the bag. He gives her a quick smirk before turning and hiking on. Haley waits a moment, then follows. Scene fades out.

LATER

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Scene fades in. There are tall trees around, with tall underbrush with a trail. Roy leads the way, followed by Sam, Ben, Haley, and Dean at the rear.
Roy: This is it. Blackwater Ridge.
Sam heads past Roy.
Sam: What coordinates are we at?
Roy pulls out a GPS, which reads N 35o 45.383, W 111o 00.55.
Roy: Thirty-five and minus one-eleven.
Dean comes up to Sam. They listen.
Dean: You hear that?
Sam: Yeah.
A pause.
Sam: Not even crickets.
Roy: I'm gonna go take a look around.
Sam: You shouldn't go off by yourself.
Roy: That's sweet. Don't worry about me.
Roy puts the GPS back in his inner jacket pocket, pulls his gun up slightly in a more ready position, pushes between Dean and Sam, and retakes the lead. Dean gives Sam a look that says, "Dude!" Ben and Haley catch up, as Dean turns back to the others as Ben and Haley catch up.
Dean: All right, everybody stays together. Let's go.
Dean turns to follow Roy. Sam, Ben, then Haley, who were all looking around, start to turn to follow Dean. Scene fades.

CAMPSITE

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Sam, Dean, Ben, and Haley are looking around near a large rock.
Roy: Haley! Over here!
Haley and Dean look up, towards Roy's voice, before they run in his direction, followed closely by Sam and Ben. They come to a halt. Haley is breathing hard, fighting tears. Dean looks at the scene, then looks at her to see how she's taking it.
Haley: Oh my God.
The tents are bloody and torn open, and all the supplies are scattered.
Roy: Looks like a grizzly.
Several more shots of how badly the campsite was torn up. Dean and Haley start to walk around, to see everything.
Haley: Tommy?
Haley takes off her backpack and goes through the campsite.
Haley: Tommy!
Sam moves to catch up with Haley.
Sam: Shh.
Haley: Tommy!
Sam: Shh-hh-hh!
He has caught up with her, and she gets quiet. Sam is looking around, to see if they had attracted unwanted attention.
Haley: Why?
Sam: Something might still be out there.
Dean: Sam!
Sam walks up and over a small rise to Dean, stepping on and snapping a stick, before he crouches next to Dean.
Dean: The bodies were dragged from the campsite.
They look at each other, before studying the ground once more.
Dean: But here, the tracks just vanish. That's weird.
Dean and Sam stand up.
Dean: I'll tell you what, that's no skinwalker or black dog.
Dean heads back to the campsite and Sam follows, looking around carefully in the trees. Haley picks up Tom's cell phone; it's bloody. She cries quietly. She turns the phone over and the back is open. Dean walks over and crouches next to her.
Dean: Hey, he could still be alive.
Haley gives Dean a disbelieving look. He gives her a "Have faith" look.
Someone: He-e-e-e-e-e-elp!
Everyone stands up, listening.
Someone: Help!
Roy leads the way as everyone runs to the aid of the shouter.
Someone: Help! Somebody!
They stop and look around, but find no one.
Haley: It seemed like it was coming from around here, didn't it?
They listen.
Sam: Everybody back to camp.
Sam leads the way, jogging, with Roy, Haley, Dean and Ben following. Back at the campsite, all the supplies are missing.
Haley: Our packs!
Roy: So much for my GPS and my satellite phone.
Haley: What the hell is going on?
Sam: It's smart. It wants to cut us off so we can't call for help.
Roy: You mean someone, some... nutjob out there just stole all our gear.
Sam goes to Dean.
Sam: I need to speak with you. In private.
Sam and Dean head a little ways away from the group. Sam looks all around, before stopping and turning to Dean.
Sam: Good. Let me see Dad's journal.
Dean hands it over, looking around at the forest himself. Sam opens it and flips through until he finds a particular page.
Sam: All right, check that out.
Sam points to a First Nations-style drawing of a figure.
Dean: Oh come on, wendigos are in the Minnesota woods or, or northern Michigan. I've never even heard of one this far west.
Sam: Think about it, Dean, the claws, the way it can mimic a human voice.
Dean makes a face.
Dean: Great.
Dean takes out his pistol.
Dean: Well then this is useless.
Sam gives Dean back John's journal and heads past Dean. Stopping for a moment, Sam turns back to Dean to talk, before heading back to the camp.
Sam: We gotta get these people to safety.
Back at the campsite, Sam addresses the group.
Sam: All right, listen up, it's time to go. Things have gotten... more complicated.
Haley: What?
Roy: Kid, don't worry. Whatever's out there, I think I can handle it.
Sam: It's not me I'm worried about. If you shoot this thing, you're just gonna make it mad.
Sam turns from addressing Roy to looking at Haley.
Sam: We have to leave. Now.
Roy: One, you're talking nonsense. Two, you're in no position to give anybody orders.
Dean: Relax.
Sam: We never should have let you come out here in the first place, all right? I'm trying to protect you.
Roy steps right into Sam's space.
Roy: You protect me? I was hunting these woods when your mommy was still kissing you good night.
Sam drops his voice to a scary serious level, right back into Roy's space.
Sam: Yeah? It's a damn near perfect hunter. It's smarter than you,
Roy looks away and back at Sam, disbelieving.
Sam: and it's gonna hunt you down and eat you alive unless we get your stupid sorry ass out of here.
Roy laughs sarcastically, hitting Sam across the arm. Sam is getting furious.
Roy: You know you're crazy, right?
Sam: Yeah? You ever hunt a wen-
Dean pushes Sam away, trying to get him to calm down.
Haley: Roy!
Dean: Chill out.
Haley: Stop. Stop it. Everybody just stop.
She looks back and forth from Roy to the Winchesters.
Haley: Look. Tommy might still be alive. And I'm not leaving here without him.
A long pause. She looks at the Winchesters. Dean turns and exchanges a look with Sam. Dean capitulates, turning back to Haley. Sam's upset, and looks away.
Dean: It's getting late. This thing is a good hunter in the day, but an unbelievable hunter at night.
Roy rolls his eyes in the background, as Haley is listening carefully to Dean.
Dean: We'll never beat it, not in the dark. We need to settle in and protect ourselves.
Dean walks past Haley, who turns to follow his movements, watching.
Haley: How?
Screen goes to black.

ACT THREE

CAMPSITE

EXT. FOREST - NIGHT
The group has built a campfire, and Dean draws something in the dirt around the campsite while Haley pokes at the fire.
Haley: One more time, that's-
Dean: Anasazi symbols. It's for protection. The wendigo can't cross over them.
Dean has moved to a different spot, and drawing another one in the dirt. Roy laughs, gun over his shoulder.
Dean: Nobody likes a skeptic, Roy.
Dean, after looking out into the trees and tossing the stick down, heads over to sit next to Sam, who is at the edge of the campsite.
Dean: You wanna tell me what's going on in that freaky head of yours?
Sam: Dean-
Dean: No, you're not fine. You're like a powder keg, man, it's not like you. I'm supposed to be the belligerent one, remember?
A pause.
Sam: Dad's not here. I mean, that much we know for sure, right? He would have left us a message, a sign, right?
Dean: Yeah, you're probably right. Tell you the truth, I don't think Dad's ever been to Lost Creek.
Sam: Then let's get these people back to town and let's hit the road. Go find Dad. I mean, why are we still even here?
Dean comes around to Sam's front and holds up John's journal.
Dean: This is why. This book.
Dean taps the journal.
Dean: This is Dad's single most valuable possession. Everything he knows about every evil thing is in here. And he's passed it on to us. I think he wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things. The family business.
Sam shakes his head and takes a breath. He lowers his head down into his hands, just for a brief second, to rub his face before facing Dean again.
Sam: That makes no sense. Why-why doesn't he just-call us? Why doesn't he-tell us what he wants, tell us where he is?
Dean: I dunno. But the way I see it,
A pause.
Dean: Dad's giving us a job to do, and I intend to do it.
Sam is upset and fighting tears.
Sam: Dean...no. I gotta find Dad. I gotta find Jessica's killer.
A pause as Sam glances away, then back to Dean.
Sam: It's the only thing I can think about.
Dean: Okay, all right, Sam, we'll find them, I promise. Listen to me. You've gotta prepare yourself. I mean, this search could take a while, and all that anger, you can't keep it burning over the long haul. It's gonna kill you. You gotta have patience, man.
Sam looks down, then up, shaking his head. He's still fighting tears.
Sam: How do you do it?
Sam gives a quick, sarcastic laugh.
Sam: How does Dad do it?
Dean looks over at Haley and Ben.
Dean: Well for one, them.
Sam looks over at Haley and Ben.
Dean: I mean, I figure our family's so screwed to hell, maybe we can help some others. Makes things a little bit more bearable.
A pause, as Sam contemplates what Dean has said.
Dean: I'll tell you what else helps.
Sam looks back at Dean.
Dean: Killing as many evil sons of bitches as I possibly can.
Dean gives a half smile. Sam gives a small smile back. A twig snaps.
Someone, presumably the Wendigo: Help me!
Sam looks over in the direction of the voice. Dean stands and readies his gun, as Sam jumps up as well. Sam turns on a flashlight and shines it about.
Wendigo: Pleeeeease!
The group is all standing, looking about in the woods.
Wendigo: Help!
Dean: He's trying to draw us out. Just stay cool, stay put.
Roy: Inside the magic circle?
Wendigo: Help! Help me!
Sam spins around, trying to spot the wendigo with his flashlight.
Growling, incredibly fast, from left to right.
Roy points his gun at the sound.

Roy: Okay, that's no grizzly.
Dean is looking about carefully. Sam is shining his flashlight about. Haley backs up, and grabs Ben, lowering him down, and kneeling down next to him, still looking around.
Haley: It's okay. You'll be all right, I promise.
Something rushes past, growling, from right to left. Haley shrieks and falls back on her butt.
Sam: It's here.
Roy is taking careful aim at the sound when it growls and rushes back from right to left. He follows it with his gun, before shooting at the rustling. The growling and rustling race back around the camp, then Roy fires again. There is a keening, a cry of pain.
Roy: I hit it!
Roy runs to see what he hit.
Dean: Roy, no! Roy!
Dean turns to Haley and Ben, pointing at them.
Dean: Don't move.
Haley's standing, holding a stick, burning at one end, as a weapon. Ben runs over to her, and she pulls him in close to her. Dean and Sam run after Roy. She swings the fire stick around.
Roy: It's over here!
Dean: Roy!
Roy: It's in the tree!
The Wendigo reaches down from the tree and snaps Roy's neck.
Dean: Roy!
Dean and Sam have reached the area, but no Roy. Sam aims the flashlight around, then directly into the camera.

ACT FOUR

CAMPSITE

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Sam is sitting against a hollow tree stump, holding John's journal and playing with a lanyard attached to same. Dean and Haley and Ben are among the tents.
Haley: I don't...I mean, these types of things, they aren't supposed to be real.
Dean: I wish I could tell you different.
Haley: How do we know it's not out there watching us?
Dean: We don't. But we're safe for now.
Haley: How do you know about this stuff?
A pause while Dean considers.
Dean: Kind of runs in the family.
Dean stands up. Haley considers Dean. Sam comes over.
Sam: Hey.
Haley stands up. Ben stands up to join them.
Sam: So we've got half a chance in the daylight. And I, for one, want to kill this evil son of a bitch.
Dean: Well, hell, you know I'm in.
Sam shows the wendigo page of John's journal to Haley and Ben.
Sam: 'Wendigo' is a Cree Indian word. It means 'evil that devours'.
Dean steps forward from the other side of Sam, who steps back and lets Dean explain. As Dean talks, he walks between the Collins, then stops on the other side of them, having seen what he needs.
Dean: They're hundreds of years old. Each one was once a man. Sometimes an Indian, or other times a frontiersman or a miner or hunter.
Haley: How's a man turn into one of those things?
Dean picks a couple things up off the ground. He turns back to them, continuing to explain.
Dean: Well, it's always the same. During some harsh winter a guy finds himself starving, cut off from supplies or help. Becomes a cannibal to survive, eating other members of his tribe or camp.
Ben: Like the Donner Party.
Sam: Cultures all over the world believe that eating human flesh gives a person certain abilities. Speed, strength, immortality.
Dean: If you eat enough of it, over years, you become this... less than human thing. You're always hungry.
Haley: So if that's true, how can Tommy still be alive?
Dean is wrapping up the white cloth he's picked up. Dean glances at Sam, then back to Haley.
Dean: You're not gonna like it.
Haley: Tell me.
Dean: More than anything, a wendigo knows how to last long winters without food. It hibernates for years at a time, but when it's awake it keeps its victims alive. It, uh, it stores them, so it can feed whenever it wants.
Haley gives a sidelong glances to Ben, who is looking pissed, and somewhat scared.
Dean: If your brother's alive, it's keeping him somewhere dark, hidden, and safe.
Dean glances back at Sam behind him, before focusing on Haley again.
Dean: We gotta track it back there.
Haley: And then how do we stop it?
Dean: Well, huh, guns are useless, so are knives. Basically-
Haley is determined. Ben is feeling a bit sick. Dean holds up the can of lighter fluid, the beer bottle, and the white cloth he'd picked up.
Dean: We gotta torch the sucker.

FOREST

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Dean leads the way through the woods, Molotov cocktail in hand. Haley follows, then Ben, then Sam. They pass trees with claw marks and blood.
Sam (voiceover): Dean!

EXT. FOREST - DAY, LATER
Sam is looking up into the canopy. Dean walks over to him.
Dean: What is it?
Sam and Dean look around at the trees. There are bloody claw marks and broken branches everywhere.
Sam: You know, I was thinking, those claw prints, so clear and distinct.
Sam gives a sarcastic huff, shaking his head. Dean looks over at Sam.
Sam: They were almost too easy to follow.
Growling from right to left, Sam and Dean whip around. Growling from left to right, with a blurred figure running through the trees. Another growling run, from left to right, as Sam is trying to track it visually. All is quiet, as the camera shows each one in turn - Sam, Dean, Ben, then Haley. Blood drips on her shirt. She notices and looks up into the canopy. She screams, then tries to run out of the way; Roy's corpse lands where she'd stood. Haley sprawls and rolls.
Sam goes over to Haley as Dean examines Roy .

Sam: You okay? You got it? Dean.
Dean: His neck's broke.
More growling. Dean looks up and around. Sam helps Haley up, as he's starting to breathe faster.
Dean: Okay, run, run, run, run, go, go, go!
Dean turns to Sam, helping him to run ahead of Dean. Everybody takes off.Running up and over the slight hill, it's first Dean, then Haley, Sam, and then Ben. Ben falls and Sam hurries back to help him, dividing the group into two and two.
Sam: Come on, come on, I gotcha, I gotcha.
Sam helps Ben up, glancing behind them as Ben starts running again. Dean and Haley stop short: the wendigo is in front of them. Haley screams. Ben and Sam are still running to catch up.
Ben: Haley?
They stop running. Ben is looking around for Haley. Sam spots something on the ground and picks up Dean's Molotov cocktail, the bottle broken. Sam looks one way, turns 180 to look behind, then back to look at the front.
Sam: Dean!
Scene goes to black.

ACT FIVE

FOREST

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Fade in. Ben and Sam are walking through the forest. Sam is looking around.
Ben: If it keeps its victims alive, why would it kill Roy?
Sam: Honestly? I think because Roy shot at it, pissed it off.
Ben finds a trail of peanut M&Ms and picks one up.
Ben: They went this way.
Sam catches up to Ben, who hands over the M&M. Sam laughs.
Sam: It's better than bread crumbs.
Sam tosses the M&M away and laughs again.
Sam and Ben follow the trail. They come to a mine entrance marked with a sign that says WARNING! DANGER! DO NOT ENTER EXTREMELY TOXIC MATERIAL. Sam studies the mine entrance, while Ben glances around. Sam looks at Ben, shrugs, and steps through the narrow opening. After glancing back around, Ben follows. Above the entrance is a larger sign that says KEEP OUT NO ADMITTANCE.

MINE

INT. MINE - DAY
Sam shines the flashlight ahead of them. Only the sound of footsteps and breathing is heard, then a low growling; Sam shuts off the light and pushes Ben against the wall. Both are looking in the direction of the sound. The Wendigo comes towards them, a large indistinguishable shadow with a rectangular area of light behind it. Sam hears Ben starting to panic, and turns back to him to cover Ben's mouth before he can scream. The Wendigo takes a different tunnel at the crossing. Sam makes sure it is gone before he turns loose of Ben's mouth and starts walking again. Ben follows. Sam turns on his flashlight as they keep going, this time Ben in the lead. The floorboards creak, and Ben stops, looking down at what he's standing on. The floor gives way and Ben and Sam fall through the floor. They land heavily on the floor, Sam groaning a bit on his back. There is a pile nearby of skulls. Ben spots them and leaps backward. Sam sits up to grab him, placing one hand on his shoulder to calm him down.
Sam: Hey, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay.
They are panting. Sam looks up, then around; Dean and Haley are hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. Sam makes his way to Dean.
Sam: Dean.
Ben sees Haley and heads for her.
Ben: Haley, wake up!
Sam grabs Dean and shakes him.
Sam: Dean!
Dean opens his eyes and groans.
Sam: Hey, you okay?
Dean groans again.
Dean: Yeah.
Dean winces and nods. Ben is holding Haley's face, begging her to respond, fighting tears.
Ben: Haley, Haley, wake up, wake up.
Haley opens her eyes. Sam cuts Dean down.
Sam: Gotcha.
Dean winces and groans as circulation is returned and the weight is off his shoulders. Sam is holding Dean's shoulders, taking him over to an empty patch of floor and gets him to sit down.
Dean: Ah! Mmm... mmm...
Dean makes pained noises, pressing his mouth tight. Ben takes care of Haley, as she's sitting down already.
Sam: You sure you're all right?
Dean grimaces, then nods.
Dean: Yeah. Yep. Where is it?
Sam: It's gone for now.
Dean exhales. The group is resting. Haley divests herself of rope around her wrists. She looks up and spots Tom still hanging. Ben turns around to see what she's looking at. Ben helps her to stand up and head over to Tom. When she gets close enough to see him well, she starts crying. Sam comes up behind her.
Haley: Tommy...
Haley touches Tom's cheek. Tom's head jerks up, as he gasps for breath. Haley jumps back and shrieks. Dean looks over at them, where he's on the floor still. Haley reaches out to steady Tommy. She turns to Sam.
Haley: Cut him down!
Sam cuts Tom down, with Sam, Haley, and Ben all catching Tom before he falls. Dean finds supplies next to where he's sitting, and he starts rifling through them. Tom ends up on Ben's lap, with Haley leaning over him.
Haley: Hey.
Tom's eyes flick up to look at Ben, as he starts to smile. He's still breathing heavily, trying to catch his breath. Dean staggers to his feet.
Haley: We're gonna get you home.
Dean is holding flare guns. Haley is cradling Tom's face, as he leans against her hand for comfort. His eyes close. she rubs one hand across his forehead.
Dean: Check it out.
Sam: Flare guns. Those'll work.
Sam grins. Dean laughs and twirls the guns.

INT. MINE - DAY
They head down a tunnel, Dean and Sam in the lead with the flare guns and Haley and Ben supporting Tom, who is limping. Growling is heard, as Sam brings his flare gun up to aim.
Dean: Looks like someone's home for supper.
Haley: We'll never outrun it.
Dean looks back at the others. Haley repositions Tom over her shoulder. After a moment of looking at the Collins, Dean switches his gaze to Sam, who is still aiming his flare gun.
Dean: You thinking what I'm thinking?
Sam: Yeah, I think so.
Sam's eyes flick over to Dean. Dean looks around, taking a step and swinging back to face the group.
Dean: All right, listen to me. Stay with Sam. He's gonna get you out of here.
Haley: What are you gonna do?
Dean winks and starts walking and yelling.
Dean: Chow time, you freaky bastard! Yeah, that's right, bring it on, baby, I taste good.
Dean gives a swiping motion with his arm - the signal for the rest of them to get movng. Sam brings his flare gun up to bear, following Dean's steps down to the area where Dean had left them, before relaxing. The rest of Dean's words are indistinct. Sam waits until Dean is a safe distance away.
Sam: All right, come on! Hurry!
Sam had let the flare gun down briefly, but now he is all business. The Collinses follow Sam down the tunnel, with Tom limping slightly.

INT. MINE - DAY
Dean has his left arm tight against his chest, possibly hurt somehow. He is walking carefully, looking around as he's calling out insults.
Dean: Hey!
He steps over to a shaft of light from above, looking up. He calls again.
Dean: Hey, you want some white meat, bitch! I'm right here!
He continues down the tunnel.

INT. MINE - DAY
Sam, Haley, Ben, and Tom hurry down a tunnel. Sam is on point, his gun aimed downward. Tom is only hanging on Haley, allowing Ben to walk slightly behind them. There is panting. Growling. Sam points the gun down the left tunnel, then lowers the gun. More growling, and Sam raises the gun up the right tunnel. He turns to the Collinses.
Sam: Get him outta here.
Haley: Sam, no.
Tom's head rolls back slightly. His eyes are closed.
Sam: Go! Go! Go!
Ben: Come on, Haley!
More panting as Haley and Ben help Tom along the mine tunnel. Sam looks back down the tunnel with the growling, before he repositions himself against the wall. Sam holds the flare gun ready to shoot. He's breathing heavily.
Sam: Come on.
Sam sniffs. He takes another deep breath.
Sam: Come on.
He takes two more deep breaths. Growling again, from a different angle. There is a noise right behind him. Filling with dread, Sam turns slowly; the wendigo is right in his face, and it screams at Sam. Sam spins away from the wall where he was standing and shoots and misses, the flare ending up in the rocks behind the wendigo. The force of the spin and the firing of the gun has caused him to fall back, so he scrambles to his feet and then races after the Collinses.
Haley hears a noise, and calls out desperately in the tunnel.

Haley: Sam!
The noise is Sam - he comes racing down the tunnel with the light behind him, as he catches up.
Sam: Come on, hurry, hurry, hurry.
He reaches them, and he grabs Haley to hurry her along. Sam is behind the Collins, as both Ben and Haley are trying to run with Tim. Sam runs around them to lead them as they run to the end of the tunnel, the wendigo right behind.
Sam: Dead end. Get behind me.
Sam maneuvers around to stand in front of them. With his arms spread, he is large enough to hide all three Collinses. Sam is panting.
The wendigo approaches, taking its time. It growls. There is fear on everyone's face. It stands up and gives a ferocious yell, throwing it's arms wide.

Dean: Hey!
Dean is behind the wendigo, flare gun ready to fire. The wendigo turns to look. Dean shoots it in the stomach. The flare goes off and the wendigo goes up in spectacular flames. Sam and the Collins look on at the sight, the flame reflected off their faces. The wendigo is growling in pain, falling down. Dean watches as it dies. It lays there on the ground, just burning.
Dean: Not bad, huh?
Dean start to smile. Haley smiles back. Sam grins widely, half chuckling. Dean tosses his head - it was a job well done. The fire crackles.

EPILOGUE

EXT. RANGER STATION - NIGHT
An ambulance is parked outside the Ranger Station. There is a sheriff's car next to it. Two officers are walking along the side of the ambulance. An ambulance loads up Tom. Two police officers interviews Ben; Sam stands behind Ben, nodding his head.
Officer: And the bear came back again after you yelled at it?
Ben: That's when it circled the campsite. I mean, this grizzly must have weighed eight hundred, nine hundred pounds.
Sam nods.
Officer: All right, we'll go after it first thing.
The camera switches angles, swooping over to the car where Haley talks to Dean; both have already been patched up. Dean is sitting on the trunk lid of the Impala. Haley has a bandage on her left forehead. Dean has a bandage on the right side of his cheek and right side of his neck; the gash above his left eyebrow has stopped bleeding.
Haley: So, really, I don't know how to thank you.
Dean smirks lasciviously, giving a chuckle. Haley smiles despite herself.
Haley: Must you cheapen the moment?
Dean: Yeah.
Dean's eyes go wide, and gives a half roll. She smiles more. A paramedic comes up to Haley.
Paramedic: You riding with your brother?
Haley: Yeah.
The paramedic heads back to the ambulance. Sam and Ben are slowly walking up to Haley and Dean. Haley turns to Ben.
Haley: Let's go.
Sam and Ben share a look, and nod at each other. Sam hits Ben on the shoulder. Haley looks over at Dean for a moment, then leans in and kisses Dean on the cheek. He is surprised.
Haley: I hope you find your father.
Dean nods slightly. Haley steps back, and puts her arms around Ben, and heads for the ambulance.
Haley: Thanks, Sam.
Sam steps over to Dean. Haley gives a look back at Dean, before turning forward again. Sam settles on the trunk lid of the car next to Dean, giving a long sigh. Haley and Ben climb in the ambulance with Tom, who is shirtless and bandaged. His left shoulder and upper arm, left mid-chest, upper right chest, and a small bandage on his right cheek all have bandages. He is laying on the stretcher with his eyes closed. Haley reaches up and helps Ben sit next to her. Dean is watching.
Paramedic 2: Close her up.
A third paramedic closes the ambulance doors as Haley watches Dean through the windows. Her left hand is rubbing Ben's hair, leaning him against her. Dean and Sam watch the scene together.
Dean: Man, I hate camping.
Sam: Me too.
Noises of the ambulance driving away, sirens on. Sam glances down.
Dean: Sam, you know we're gonna find Dad, right?
Sam nods, sighing.
Sam: Yeah, I know. But in the meantime?
A slow smile spreads across Sam's face. He turns toward Dean.
Sam: I'm driving.
Sam watches Dean, still with a small smile on his face. Dean thinks about it, looking down, before tossing Sam the keys. Sam smiles bigger as he catches the keys one-handed, and they each head back to climb into the Impala.
"Fly By Night" by Rush begins to play.
They pause before climbing in, giving each other satisfied looks. Sam and Dean get in the car, slamming the doors almost in sync. The Impala starts up, headlights on. Dean, then Sam, look at each other, before focusing ahead.

Music:Why try? I know why
The car pulls out.
Music:My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

EXT. ROAD - DAY
The Impala is driving, heading straight for the camera, engine noise getting louder.
Music:My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend
Music ends.

DELETED SCENE

EXT. FOREST - DAY
Haley sits down next to a rock. Ben leans against a tree. Dean climbs up near Haley, who takes a drink and hands the bottle up to Dean. Ben spots something and goes to have a look; Sam follows. Ben moves a tree branch aside to have a look at what he saw: it's the same First Nations stick figure that's in John's journal.
Sam: That's a hell of a find, Ben. Those are Anasazi.
Dean comes over.
Ben: What's that?
Sam: Ancient Indians. They were this whole civilization that just vanished completely. No one really knows why.
Another look at the stick figure.
Sam: I've seen that somewhere before.
Roy: Haley! Over here!
Haley hurries to Roy, the others following behind.
