INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT
The camera pans across the kitchen, where there are moving boxes stacked. A young woman, Jenny, is sitting on the floor, unpacking boxes.
Jenny: Ah!
She comes across a photo of herself and her husband at their wedding. She begins to cry just as her daughter, Sairie, comes in the room.
Sairie: Mommy?
Jenny gasps and looks up.
Jenny: Hey, sweetie. Why aren't you in bed?
Sairie: There's something in my closet.
Jenny gives her daughter a sigh, and a knowing look.
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
Jenny opens the closet doors and walks inside as Sairie watches from her bed. She turns around to face Sairie.
Jenny: See? There's nothing there.
Jenny stands there with her hands on her hips.
Sairie: You sure?
Jenny: I'm sure.
Jenny closes the closet doors, and heads over to the bed.
Jenny: Now, come on. Into bed.
Sairie crawls under the covers and Jenny tucks her in. She sighs.
Sairie: I don't like this house.
Jenny: You're just not used to it yet. But, you and your brother and me, we are going to be very happy here. I promise.
She kisses Sairie on her forehead.
Jenny: I love you.
Jenny turns off the light and gets up and walks to the door.
Sairie: The chair.
Jenny: Okay. (under her breath) Right.
She moves a chair under the doorknobs of the closet.
Jenny: The chair.
Jenny sighs.
Jenny: Just to be safe.
Sairie lies down. Jenny leaves.
INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
Jenny continues unpacking boxes. She stops when she hears the sound of scratching coming from the basement. It runs back and forth from left to right and right to left several times.
Jenny: Please, God, don't let it be rats.
INT. BASEMENT - NIGHT
Jenny goes downstairs into the basement with a flashlight. She tries turning on a light, but the switch doesn't work. She walks over to the middle and tries the pull chain on the next bulb, but it too doesn't work. She lets out a sigh of frustration.
Jenny: Terrific.
Jenny sighs again, looking around.
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
The chair begins moving on its own, away from the closet doors. Sairie gasps and sits up in her bed, wide-eyed and afraid. It moves completely out of the way. Sairie whimpers.
INT. BASEMENT - NIGHT
Jenny keeps looking around. She accidently hits a pot hanging from the ceiling, and gasps, before ducking under it to keep looking. On the floor, she sees a large black trunk. She kneels down and opens it, pulling out old photos of the Winchester family. The first one is of John Winchester.
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
The creaky closet doors open by themselves. Sairie begins to breathe shakily, with fear.
INT. BASEMENT - NIGHT
The next picture is of Mary, with John's arm around her. The next one is of the Winchester family. Jenny smiles and flips the picture over. Written on the back of a picture are the words, "The Winchesters. John, Mary, Dean, and Little Sammy."
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
The creaky closet doors continue to open wide. At first there is nothing, but fire starts flaming up what looks like a person. The flickering firelight is reflected into the bedroom, as the camera pans closer to the bed. Sairie screams.
The screen goes black.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Fade in. The Winchester house at night with a tree standing outside. The camera jumps to a closer shot of the house; inside an upstairs window shows Jenny. She is inside her bedroom. A close up of the window shows her screaming for help, although no sound is heard. She looks behind her in terror, and turns to scream again.
INT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
A truck horn blows, traveling from left to right. Sam startles awake, sitting up in bed, confused. He breathes heavily, glancing over at Dean, before blinking sleep from his eyes.

Dean: All right.

Dean: I've been cruisin' some websites. I think I found a few candidates for our next gig.
Sam flips the page back, to another drawing of a similar tree. Dean sips coffee.
Dean: A fishing trawler found off the coast of Cali - its crew vanished.
Dean: And, uh, we got some cattle mutilations in West Texas. Hey.
Sam looks up from his drawing.
Dean: Am I boring you with this hunting-evil stuff?

Sam goes back to his drawing.
Sam: No. I'm listening. Keep going.

Dean: What are you doing?
Sam pulls out his dad's leather journal, searching through photos. Sam finds a photo of their family from when he was a baby. He compares the tree in the photo to his drawing. They are the same. Sam turns to Dean.
Sam: Dean, I know where we have to go next.
Dean: Where?

Sam: Back home. Back to Kansas.
Credit: | Co-Executive Producer JOHN SHIBAN |
Dean gives Sam a disbelieving half laugh.
Dean: Okay, random. Where'd that come from?
Sam heads over to Dean.
Sam: All right, um, this photo was taken in front of our old house, right?
Sam drops the photo on the table. Dean reaches and picks it up.
Sam: The house where Mom died?
Dean: Yeah.
Reluctantly Dean looks from the photo to Sam.
Sam: And it didn't burn down, right? I mean, not completely. They rebuilt it, right?
Dean: I-I guess so, yeah. What the hell are you talkin' about?
Sam: Okay, look, this is gonna sound crazy
Sam sits down opposite Dean.
Sam: but the people who live in our old house... I think they might be in danger.
Dean: Why would you think that?
Sam: Uh...
Sam shakes his head.
Sam: it's just, um... look,

Credit: | Co-Executive Producer KIM MANNERS |
Sam continues packing.
Sam: Yeah.
Dean: Come on, man, that's weak. You gotta give me a little bit more than that.
Sam: I can't, really, explain it - is all.
Dean: Well, tough! I'm not goin' anywhere until you do.
Sam sighs, turning to face his brother. Dean waits expectantly.
Sam: I have these nightmares.
Dean nods.
Dean: I've noticed.

Dean: Sam, people have weird dreams, man.
Credit: | Directed by KEN GIROTTI |
Dean: I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
Dean sits down on his bed.
Sam: No, I dreamt about the blood dripping, her on the ceiling, the fire, everything, and I didn't do anything about it 'cause I didn't believe it. And now I'm dreaming about that tree,
Dean looks down at the picture of the four of them.
Sam: about our house, and about some woman inside screaming for help. I mean, that's where it all started, man, this has to mean something, right?
Sam is breathing fast. Dean is overwhelmed.
Dean: I don't know.
Sam: You don't - What do you mean you don't know, Dean?
Sam sits down across from Dean on his own bed.
Sam: This-this woman might be in danger! I mean, this might even be the thing that killed Mom and Jessica!
Dean stands up and heads over to the desk to put room between himself and Sam.
Dean: All right, just slow down, would ya?
Dean chuckles, before stopping and turning back to Sam.
Dean: I mean, first you tell me that you've got the Shining?
Sam gives a half shake of his head.
Dean: And then you tell me that I've gotta go back home?
A pause.
Dean: Especially when...
Sam: When what?
Dean:
(sadly) When I swore to myself that I would never go back there?
Dean looks down at the photo sadly, before turning his back on Sam. Sam slowly stands.
Sam:
(softly) Look... Dean, we have to check this out. Just to make sure.
Dean looks back at Sam, giving him a hard look before nodding imperceptibly.
Dean: I know we do.
EXT. BACK ROAD - DAY
The Impala is driving down the road. It passes a mailbox with the house number 7007. The camera follows the Impala, as it shows fields in the background, before it pans over to the road sign to Lawrence - 3 miles.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - DAY
The old tree, just as in Sam's dream, stands outside the house. Dean and Sam pull up in the Impala, looking over at the house. Dean parks the Impala, turning her off.
Sam: You gonna be all right, man?
A pause.
Dean: Let me get back to you on that.
Sam, then Dean, climbs out of the Impala, and shuts the doors.
Sound of knocking on the door is heard.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - DAY
Jenny answers the front door. Sam is shocked that she is the same woman from his dream.
Jenny: Yes?
Dean: Sorry to bother you, ma'am, but we're with the Federal-
Sam: I'm Sam Winchester, and-and this is my brother, Dean. Um, we used to live here.
Sam take a deep breath.
Sam: You know, we were-we were just drivin' by,
Dean looks at Sam, not sure what Sam would say.
Sam: and we were wondering if we could come see the old place.
Dean looks back at Jenny.
Jenny: Winchester. Yeah, that's so funny. You know, I-I think I found some of your photos the other night.
Dean: You did?
Jenny looks back into the house, makes up her mind and steps aside.
Jenny:
(softly) Uh -
A pause.
Jenny:
(to herself) Okay.
(to Dean and Sam) Yeah, come on in.
The brothers look at each other before they go inside.
INT. KITCHEN - DAY
The front door closes. First Jenny, then Sam, and finally Dean walk into the kitchen. Dean is looking around, recognizing his old house, and not comfortable. Ritchie, the jumpy toddler, is in his playpen.
Ritchie: Juice! Juice! Juice! Juice!
Ritchie continues to call for juice. Sairie, the older sister, is at the table doing homework. Sam walks in and looks around, Dean behind him.
Jenny: That's Ritchie. He's kind of a juice junkie.
She takes a sippy cup out of the refrigerator and hands it to Ritchie. Ritchie quiets as he drinks his juice.
Jenny: But, hey, at least he won't get scurvy.
She walks over to Sairie.
Jenny: Sairie, this is Sam and Dean. They used to live here.
Sairie: Hi.
Dean waves.
Sam: Hey, Sairie.
Dean: So, you just moved in?
Jenny: Uh, yeah, from Wichita.
Dean: You got family here, or...?
Jenny: No. I just, uh...
Jenny looks down, unsure what all to say, before facing the brothers again.
Jenny: Um, needed a fresh start, that's all. So, new town, new job - I mean, as soon as I find one.
Jenny takes a quick breath.
Jenny: New house.
Sam: So, how you likin' it so far?
Jenny heads for the sink, turning around to respond to Sam.
Jenny: Well, uh, all due respect to your childhood home - I mean, I'm sure you had lots of happy memories here.
Dean smiles weakly. Jenny turns to the sink to fill a glass of water.
Jenny: But this place has its issues.
Sam: What do you mean?
The brothers are concerned. Jenny turns to face them again.
Jenny: Well, it's just getting old. Like the wiring, you know? We've got flickering lights almost hourly.
Dean: Oh, that's too bad. What else?
Jenny: Um... sink's backed up. There's, uh, rats in the basement.
Dean gives a tight smile, before a small nod. She pauses.
Jenny: I'm sorry. I don't mean to complain.
Dean:
(not offended) No. Have you seen - the rats, or have you just heard scratching?
Jenny: It's just the scratching, actually.
Sairie: Mom?
Dean, concerned, glances over at Sam, who returns his look. Jenny kneels down next to Sairie.
Sairie: Ask them if it was here when they lived here.
Sam: What, Sairie?
Sairie: The thing in my closet.
Jenny: Oh, no, baby.
Jenny gives a half laugh.
Jenny: There was nothing in their closets.
Jenny looks to Sam and Dean.
Jenny: Right?
Dean looks to Sam, who is quick to respond.
Sam: Right. No, no, of course not.
Sam smiles at the girl. Jenny turns back to face Sairie.
Jenny: She had a nightmare the other night.
Sairie: I wasn't dreaming. It came into my bedroom - and it was on
fire.
Sam and Dean are shocked.
Sam (voiceover): You hear that?
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - DAY
Dean and Sam are walking back to the car. Sam is excited, talking to Dean. Dean is rather freaked.
Sam: A figure on fire.
Dean: And that woman, Jenny, that was the woman in your dreams?
Sam: Yeah. And you hear what she was talking about? Scratching, flickering lights, both signs of a malevolent spirit.
Dean: Yeah, well, I'm just freaked out that your weirdo visions are comin' true.
Sam: Well, forget about that for a minute. The thing in the house, do you think it's the thing that killed Mom and Jessica?
Dean: I don't know!
Sam: Well, I mean, has it come back or has it been there the whole time?
Dean stops in the middle of the road, turning to face Sam head on. Sam stops with him.
Dean: Or maybe it's something else entirely, Sam. We don't know yet.
Sam: Well, those people are in danger, Dean! We have to get 'em out of that house!
Dean: And we will!
Dean starts back towards the Impala. Sam can't believe it.
Sam: No, I mean now.
Dean faces Sam once more.
Dean: And how you gonna do that, huh? You got a story that she's gonna believe?!
Sam: Then what are we supposed to do!?
EXT. GAS STATION - DAY
Dean is filling up the Impala's gas tank. Sam is leaning against the roof.
Dean: We just gotta chill out, that's all. You know, if this was any other kind of job, what would we do?
Sam sighs. He looks around, talking things through as he starts to pace back to Dean.
Sam: We'd try to figure out what we were dealin' with. We'd dig into the history of the house.
Dean stands up.
Dean: Exactly, except this time, we already know what happened.
Sam: Yeah, but how much do we know?
Sam sits on the trunk lid, next to Dean, looking up at him.
Sam: I mean, how much do you actually remember?
Dean looks over, thinking.
Dean: About that night, you mean?
Sam: Yeah.
Dean: Not much. I remember the fire... the heat.
Dean pauses for a moment.
Dean: Then I carried you out the front door.
Sam looks up at Dean, surprised.
Sam: You did?
Dean: Yeah, why, you never knew that?
Sam shook his head.
Sam: No.
Dean: And, uh, well, you know Dad's story as well as I do. Mom was... was on the ceiling. Whatever put her there was long gone by the time Dad found her.
Sam: And he never had a theory about what did it?
Sam looks up at Dean, trying to figure it out. Dean turns around, and leans back against the trunk lid, sitting next to Sam.
Dean: If he did, he kept it to himself. God knows we asked him enough times.
Sam: Okay. So, if we're gonna figure out what's goin' on now... we have to figure out what happened back then. And see if it's the same thing.
Dean: Yeah. We'll talk to Dad's friends, neighbors, people who were there at the time.
Dean gives an imperceptible nod. Sam shakes his head. After a pause.
Sam: Does this feel like just another job to you?
Dean says nothing for a moment, giving Sam a look before looking away.
Dean: I'll be right back. I gotta go to the bathroom.
Dean walks away. After turning a corner, he stands next to the bathroom door and takes out his cell phone. After making sure no one can see him, he dials a number.
Voicemail: This is John Winchester. If this is an emergency, call my son, Dean 866-907-3235.
The beep sounds.
Dean: Dad?
A pause.
Dean: I know I've left you messages before. I don't even know if you get 'em.
He clears his throat.
Dean: But... I'm with Sam. And we're in Lawrence. And there's somethin' in our old house. I don't know if it's the thing that killed Mom or not... but...
His voice breaks. He pauses, barely keeping himself together.
Dean: ...I don't know what to do.
He begins to cry.
Dean: So, whatever you're doin', if you could get here.
Dean inhales.
Dean: Please. I need your help, Dad.
He hangs up sadly, with tears in his eyes.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - DAY
Jenny is showing a plumber to the kitchen, near the sink.
Jenny: No, sir, nothing weird down there, I promise. Sink just backed up on its own.
Plumber: Well, I'll take a look.
Jenny: Thanks. Oh, okay, I'll get outta your way.
She leaves. The plumber sets down his tools.
Later he unscrews a joint, looking at the pipes under the sink. A few feet away, on Ritchie's high chair tray, a toy monkey is sitting with cymbals in its hands. Without warning, the monkey starts up. It clashes its cymbals together loudly while cackling. After a moment, the plumber looks up, confused. The plumber dumps the U pipe, unplugs the disposal, and looks back at the toy. The toy stops. The plumber stands up and checks to make sure it's off by trying to turn on the garbage disposal. Instead, he rolls up his sleeve and sticks his hand and arm down the disposal. He is startled, thinking he feels something in the drain, but when he takes his hand out, there is nothing there. He sticks his arm back down the disposal. Suddenly, the garbage disposal starts up. The plumber's arm is being completely torn apart as blood splatters up, and gushes down the open pipe below. The plumber screams. The cymbal-clashing monkey starts up again, cackling as the plumber continues to scream and his arm is continually torn apart.
The screen goes black.
INT. GUENTHER'S AUTO REPAIR - DAY
Dean, Sam, and Mike Guenther, owner of the garage, are walking into the garage bays, talking. Other mechanics are working on other cars in the background.
Dean: So you and John Winchester, you, uh, used to own this garage together?
Mike: Yeah, we used to. A long time ago. Matter of fact,
Mike puts his tool away in the toolbox, wiping his hands on a rag, before turning to face the boys to talk.
Mike: it must be, uh... twenty years since John disappeared. So why the cops interested all of a sudden?
Dean: Oh, we're re-opening some of our unsolved cases, and the Winchester disappearance is one of 'em.
Mike: Uh-huh. Well, what do you wanna know about John?
Dean: Well, whatever you remember, you know, whatever sticks out in your mind.
Mike: Uh-huh.
Another mechanic is working on a car nearby. Some sparks fly.
Mike: he was a stubborn bastard,
Mike laughs.
Mike: I remember that. And, uh, oh, whatever the game, he hated to lose, you know? It was that whole Marine thing.
Dean and Sam nod imperceptibly.
Mike: But, uh, oh, he sure loved Mary. And he doted on those kids.
Sam: But that was before the fire?
Mike: That's right.
Sam: He ever talk about that night?
Mike: Nah, not at first. I think he was in shock.
Sam: Right. But eventually? What did he say about it?
Mike: Ah, he wasn't thinkin' straight. He said, uh, he said somethin' caused that fire and killed Mary.
Dean: He ever say what did it?
Mike: Nothin' did it. It was an accident. An electrical short, uh, in the ceiling or walls or somethin'. I begged him to get some help, but uh...
Dean: But what?
Mike: Oh, he just got worse and worse.
Dean: How?
Mike: Oh, he started readin' these strange ol' books. He started goin' to see this
palm-reader in town.
Dean: Palm reader? What - uh, do you have a name?
Mike scoffs, shaking his head.
Mike: No.
EXT. IMPALA - DAY
The Impala is parked by a payphone, where Sam is looking through a phone book.
Sam: All right, so there are a few psychics and palm readers in town.
The camera pans up to show Dean is leaning against the driver's side door, listening. Sam glances up at Dean, before consulting the phone book again.
Sam: There's uh, someone named El Divino. There's,
Sam laughs.
Sam: - there's the Mysterious Mister Fortinsky.
Sam gives a smirking face towards Dean, before reading more.
Sam: Uh, Missouri Moseley, some dude -
Dean: Wait, wait. Missouri Moseley?
Dean leans forward. Sam looks up.
Sam: What?
Dean: That's a psychic?
Sam: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I guess so.
Dean opens the back door of the Impala and pulls out John's journal.
Dean: In Dad's journal...
Dean closes the car door.
Dean: here, look at this.
Dean opens to the first page, before handing it over to Sam.
Dean: First page, first sentence, read that.
Sam reads.
Sam: 'I went to Missouri,
A pause.
Sam: and I learned the truth.'
Dean shrugs, giving a smile to Sam.
Dean: I always thought he meant the state.
INT. MISSOURI'S HOUSE, WAITING AREA - DAY
Dean and Sam sit on the couch. Dean throws down a magazine on the coffee table, before rubbing his hand over his face in frustration at waiting. One foot is tapping impatiently.
Missouri: All right, then. Don't you worry 'bout a thing.
The boys look up to see Missouri Moseley. She laughs, as she is escorting a man out of the house.
Missouri: Your wife is crazy about you.
She gives another half laugh. The man thanks her and she closes the front door behind him.
Missouri: Whew. Poor bastard. His woman is cold-bangin' the gardener.
Dean smirks a bit.
Dean: Why didn't you tell him?
Missouri: People don't come here for the truth. They come for good news.
The boys stare at her.
Missouri: Well? Sam and Dean, come on already, I ain't got all day.
She leaves the room. Dean and Sam exchange a look.
INT. MISSOURI'S HOUSE, PHYSIC AREA - DAY
Missouri walks in, then turns to look at the boys, as Sam, then Dean follow her into the room.
Missouri: Well, lemme look at ya.
She laughs.
Missouri: Oh, you boys grew up handsome.
She laughs again. She points a finger at Dean.
Missouri: And you were one goofy-lookin' kid, too.
Dean glares at her while Sam smirks. They share a quick look.
Missouri: Sam.
She grabs his hand, before getting sad.
Missouri: Oh, honey... I'm sorry about your girlfriend.
The boys are shocked. Missouri breathes heavily.
Missouri: And your father - he's missin'?
Sam looks at Dean, before confronting Missouri.
Sam: How'd you know all that?
Missouri: Well... you were just thinkin' it, just now.
Sam raises his eyebrows, surprised.
Dean: Well, where is he? Is he okay?
She shakes her head slightly.
Missouri: I don't know.
Dean is surprised.
Dean: Don't know? Well, you're supposed to be a psychic, right?
Missouri: Boy, you see me sawin' some bony tramp in half? You think I'm a magician? I may be able to read thoughts and sense energies in a room, but I can't just pull facts out of thin air. Sit, please.
She huffs. Sam smirks at Dean and they sit down. Missouri snaps at Dean, wagging her finger at him again.
Missouri: Boy, you put your foot on my coffee table, I'm 'a gonna whack you with a spoon!
Dean: I didn't do anything.
Missouri: But you were thinkin' about it.
Dean raises his eyebrows for a quick second. Sam smiles, turning from Dean to Missouri. She shifts in her chair.
Sam: Okay. So... our dad.
Sam exhales. Dean is still stunned.
Sam: When did you first meet him?
Missouri: He came for a reading. A few days after the fire.
She sighs.
Missouri: I just told him what was really out there in the dark. I guess you could say... I drew back the curtains for him.
Dean: What about the fire?
A beat. Both boys are leaning forward, hanging on to her every word.
Dean:
(hesitantly) Do-do you know about what killed our mom?
Missouri: A little. Your daddy took me to your house. He was hopin' I could sense the echoes, the fingerprints of this thing.
Sam: And could you?
Missouri: I don...
She shakes her head.
Sam: What was it?
Missouri:
(softly) I don't know.
She shakes her head.
Missouri: Oh, but it was evil.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - DAY
Jenny is on the phone in the kitchen while Ritchie jumps around in his playpen. Ritchie is calling for juice, over and over, in the background. She is clearing the table while she talks.
Jenny: Look, I feel just awful about the poor man's hand.
A frustrated sigh.
Jenny: Wait, but how can I be held liable?
A pause.
Jenny: Yeah, but I can't
afford a lawyer.
Another pause, as she begins to hear noises from upstairs. She looks up and around, trying to follow the location of the noises.
Jenny: Okay, listen, you-you-you just gotta let me call you back.
She hangs up before putting it down on the table. She talks with Ritchie, occasionally still looking up.
Jenny: Ritchie, um, Mommy's gonna be right back, okay?
Ritchie: Okay.
Jenny leaves the room.
Jenny:
(whispers) Okay.
Ritchie sits down in his playpen.
INT. MISSOURI'S HOUSE - DAY
Missouri is standing over by the door, while the boys are still leaning forward talking with her earnestly.
Missouri: So...
Missouri inhales sharply.
Missouri: you think somethin's back in that house?
Sam: Definitely.
She walks back to her seat.
Missouri: I don't understand.
Sam: What?
She sits slowly.
Missouri: I haven't been back inside, but I've been keepin' an eye on the place, and it's been quiet. No sudden deaths, no ... freak accidents. Why is it actin' up now?
Sam: I don't know. But Dad going missing, and Jessica dying, and now this house all happening at once, it just feels like something's starting.
Dean: That's a comforting thought.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - DAY
While Ritchie is alone in the kitchen, one of the screws on his playpen mysteriously comes out of place. One of the playpen's sides falls to the floor. Ritchie looks at the side on the floor with a puzzled look. The safety latch on the door of the refrigerator comes undone and the refrigerator opens. Curious, Ritchie looks up. It opens wider, and Ritchie stands up and walks over to it. Inside, he sees his sippy cup full of juice.
Ritchie: Juicy.
He climbs into the refrigerator and sits on one of the shelves. Suddenly, the refrigerator door closes and the safety latch locks into place.
The screen goes black.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - DAY
Jenny returns to the kitchen.
Jenny: Ah, baby, either we have rats or Mommy is going crazy.
She sees that the playpen is empty, with one side having fallen down.
Jenny: Ritchie?
Jenny is starting to panic.
Jenny: Ritchie?!
Panicked, she rushes into the other rooms and tries to find him. Offscreen, she calls to him.
Jenny: Baby, where are you?!
She comes back into the kitchen, breathing heavily. She looks all around, desperate to find him. She sees milk leaking out from inside the refrigerator. She goes over to it and opens the door.
Ritchie: Mama.
Jenny: Oh my God!
She is trying not to cry, breathing heavily. She takes Ritchie out of the refrigerator and holds him in her arms, silently sobbing.
Ritchie: Mommy.
INT. COOPER FOYER - DAY
A few moments later, there is a knock on the door. Jenny answers it and sees Sam, Dean, and Missouri. She is breathing heavily.
Jenny: Sam, Dean. What are you doing here?
Sam: Hey, Jenny. Um, this is our friend, Missouri.
Dean: If it's not too much trouble, we were hoping to show her the old house. You know, for old time's sake.
Jenny: You know, this isn't a good time. I'm kind of busy.
Dean: Listen, Jenny, it's important.
Missouri smacks him on the back of the head.
Dean: Ow!
Missouri: Give the poor girl a break, can't you see she's upset?
Missouri turns to Jenny.
Missouri: Forgive this boy, he means well, he's just not the sharpest tool in the shed, but hear me out.
Dean, stunned, looks at Missouri.
Jenny: About what?
Missouri: About this house.
Jenny: What are you talking about?
Missouri: I think you know what I'm talking about. You think there's something in this house. Something that wants to hurt your family. Am I mistaken?
Jenny: Who are you?
Missouri: We're people who can help. Who can stop this thing. But you're gonna have to trust us, just a little.
Jenny has a glimmer of hope, looking at them.
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - DAY
A few moments later, Missouri and the boys are in Sairie's bedroom.
Missouri: If there's a dark energy around here, this room should be the center of it.
Sam: Why?
Missouri: This used to be your nursery, Sam. This is where it all happened.
Sam glances at the ceiling. An eerie whispering is heard. Missouri looks around the room; Dean glances around. Dean pulls out his EMF meter, as Missouri holds her hand out over a phone, feeling energies. She turns to look at Dean.
Missouri: That an EMF?
Dean: Yeah.
Missouri: Amateur.
Dean glares at her. Missouri goes back to feeling the energies. Dean nudges Sam and shows him that the EMF is beeping frantically.
Missouri: Oh. I don't know if you boys should be disappointed or relieved, but this ain't the thing that took your mom.
Both boys are stunned, staring at her.
Sam: Wait, are you sure?
She nods.
Sam: How do you know?
Missouri: It isn't the same energy I felt the last time I was here. It's somethin' different.
Dean: What is it?
She opens the closet.
Missouri. Not it.
Missouri walks into the closet, turning around slowly to face the boys. They are watching her, nervous and anticipating.
Missouri: Them. There's more than one spirit in this place.
Dean: What are they doing here?
Missouri walks out of the closet, over to Dean and Sam.
Missouri: They're here because of what happened to your family. You see, all those years ago, real evil came to you. It walked this house. That kind of evil leaves wounds. And sometimes, wounds get infected.
Sam: I don't understand.
Missouri: This place is a magnet for paranormal energy.
Missouri looks back at the closet, and the room in general.
Missouri: It's attracted a poltergeist. A nasty one. And it won't
rest until Jenny and her babies are dead.
Sam: You said there was more than one spirit.
She focuses on the boys again.
Missouri: There is.
She heads back to the closet.
Missouri: I just can't quite make out the second one.
Dean: Well, one thing's for damn sure. Nobody's dyin' in this house - ever again. So whatever is here, how do we stop it?
INT. MISSOURI'S HOUSE - DAY
Dean is working with herbs on the table. Sam is standing behind a chair, while Missouri is getting another flask of herbs. On the table are different herbs and roots.
Dean: So, what is all this stuff, anyway?
Missouri: Angelica Root, Van Van oil, crossroad dirt. A few other odds and ends.
Dean: Yeah? What are we supposed to do with it?
Missouri grabs a box, then walks around the table to sit down to work on a hex bag as she describes the plan.
Missouri: We're gonna put them inside the walls. In the north, south, east, west corners on each floor of the house.
Dean: We'll be punchin' holes in the dry wall. Jenny's gonna love that.
Missouri:
(slyly) She'll live.
Sam: And this'll destroy the spirits?
Missouri: It should. It should purify the house completely. We'll each take a floor.
Dean tastes one of the herbs, but it tastes nasty and he spits it out.
Missouri: But we work fast. Once the spirits realize what we're up to, things are gonna get bad.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Crickets are heard chirping. The door opens, and Missouri is walking Jenny and her kids outside.
Missouri:
(to herself) Okay.
Missouri is helping Sairie down the front steps, as Jenny is carrying Ritchie.
Missouri: Careful.
Jenny is breathing heavily.
Jenny: Look, I just- I'm not sure I'm comfortable leaving you guys here alone.
Missouri: Just take your kids to the movie or somethin', and
Missouri takes a breath.
Missouri: it'll be over by the time you get back.
(softly) Okay.
Jenny, still slightly unsure, leaves with her kids. Missouri heads to go back inside. She pauses at the doorway, watching the family for a moment, then closes the front door.
INT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Inside the house, Sam goes into one of the rooms with a hammer. He kneels down by the wall and begins using the end of the hammer to knock against the walls to find the studs. While he is doing this, a plug on the other side of the room takes itself out of the outlet. A lamp begins to move on its own also. The plug snakes its way towards Sam.
Downstairs in the kitchen, Dean knocks against the wall to find the studs. Behind him, a drawer begins to open on its own. He finds an area with no studs, and is chopping a hole in the wall with a small ax.
In the basement, Missouri is looking around. She heads towards a corner of the house, bringing a bag full of herbs to the wall. She manages to slide the bag into a hole, before she hears a noise and turns around to see a dresser coming towards her. She screams as it pins her against the wall.
Back in the kitchen, Dean starts to tuck the bag into the hole when he also hears a noise. He turns to see a knife coming at him. He quickly dives to the floor just as it hurls itself into a cabinet. Dean grabs the table, yanking it on its side in front of himself as five more knives slice into it with dull thuds. He is shaken.
Upstairs, Sam is chopping a hole in the wall as the cord slowly comes up towards his head. The short cord pulls the lamp off the side table, causing it to crash to the ground. Sam looks behind himself to see what the noise was, and the cord wraps itself around his neck. Sam is pulled to the ground violently. His fingers claw at his neck, trying to get the cord off, gasping for breath. In a desperate attempt, his right hand reaches and grabs the bag as he is fighting to get up to put the bag into the wall. The cord prevents him, as his hand shakes violently. He falls back to the floor, weakly trying to grasp the cord away from his neck, losing his battle. Dean runs into the room.
Dean: Sam!
Dean sees what is happening, and rushes over to Sam and tries to pry the cord off.
Dean: Sam!
The cord only budges slightly with all of his weight pulling against it. Sam manages to inhale once, before Dean releases the cord and it tightens once more. Dean, with mere seconds to spare, grabs the bag from the floor where Sam had dropped it, runs over to the wall, kicks a hole in the wall with his boot, and places the bag inside. A blinding white light flashes throughout the room, along with a deafening growl. Dean ducks down, holding his arms over his head for protection. Once the spirit is gone, Sam gasps weakly for air. Dean scrambles back over to Sam, who is completely weak, and pulls him upright. Dean unravels the cord from around Sam's neck and pulls him into a fierce hug as Sam starts to inhale chunks of air.
The screen goes black.
INT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
A few hours later, Dean, Sam, and Missouri are standing in the extremely messy kitchen. Dean drops some silverware on the countertop. Sam steps up behind Missouri.
Sam: You sure this is over?
Missouri: I'm sure. Why? Why do you ask?
Sam has a concerned look on his face, but he tries to blow it off.
Sam: Ah, never mind.
He shakes his head and sighs.
Sam: It's nothin', I guess.
They hear Jenny enter the house.
Jenny: Hello? We're home.
She turns on the hall light, before she carries Ritchie into the kitchen and looks around, shocked.
Jenny: What happened?
Sam: Hi, sorry. Um, we'll -we'll pay for all of this.
Dean gives Sam a look of, 'No we won't'.
Missouri: Don't you worry. Dean's gonna clean up this mess.
Dean's look gets worse. He stands there, not moving. A beat, as Jenny is looking at the mess all over the floor. Missouri turns to Dean.
Missouri: Well, what are you waiting for, boy? Get the mop.
He gives a bitchface, before starting to look for the mop.
Missouri: And don't cuss at me!
Dean gives her an unbelieving look, before he walks away, muttering under his breath.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Later, Dean, Missouri, and Sam leave the house. Dean helps Missouri down the steps. At the bottom of the steps, they stop as Missouri catches her breath. The three turn back to look at Jenny in the doorway. Jenny mouths, "Thank you" to them.
Missouri:
(softly) Okay.
Jenny shuts the door. The three walk away, as crickets are heard chirping. Scene fades out.
INT. COOPER BEDROOM - NIGHT
Fade in. Later that night, Jenny is in bed, reading Parenting magazine. She yawns and puts the magazine on her bedside table. After turning off the light and sliding underneath the covers, she starts to go to sleep. A few seconds later, the bed begins to shake, and a pounding noise starts. She opens her eyes, startled. The bed begins to shake violently. She screams, as the bed thrashes with her caught in it.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
The camera pans from showing a closeup of the bedroom window, down across the lawn, to the Impala parked across the street. Dean and Sam are sitting in the car, watching the house. Dean turns to Sam.
Dean: All right, so tell me again, what are we still doin' here?
Sam: I don't know. I just...
Sam sighs, still with his eyes watching the house.
Sam: I still have a bad feeling.
Dean: Why? Missouri did her whole Zelda Rubenstein thing. The house should be clean; this should be over.
Sam: Yeah, well, probably. But I just wanna make sure, that's all.
Dean slides down in his seat.
Dean: Yeah, well, problem is I could be sleeping in a bed right now.
Dean closes his eyes. Sam, still looking up at Jenny's bedroom window, sees her screaming, just as in his dream.
Sam: Dean.
Sam reaches over to hit Dean to grab his attention. Sam's frantic now, knowing his dream is coming true.
Sam: Dean!
They jump out of the car and race towards the house.
Dean: You grab the kids, I'll get Jenny!
They reach the front door.
INT. COOPER BEDROOM - NIGHT
Jenny races from the window where she was screaming and pounding, around the still moving bed, to the bedroom door. There, she grabs the knob and works on trying to pull it open, but it won't budge.
Jenny: Come on.
She is locked in her bedroom.
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
The figure made out of fire is standing just inside her closet, as it lights up from the feet upwards. As it completely catches fire, it slowly moves out of the closet, towards the bed.
INT. COOPER UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - NIGHT
In the hallway, Dean rushes to Jenny's bedroom door. He can hear her rattle the doorknob, as she is frantically trying to escape.
Jenny: Come on!
Dean: Jenny!
INT. COOPER BEDROOM - NIGHT
Her hands are still wrapped around the doorknob, but she is stuck.
Jenny: I can't open the door!
INT. COOPER UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - NIGHT
Dean: Stand back!
Dean steps back, away from the door, to get enough room to forcibly kick the door open.
INT. COOPER BEDROOM - NIGHT
She moves back. Dean kicks open the door, splintering the doorjamb. He steps into the room and grabs for her hands.
Dean: Come on.
Jenny: No, my kids!
At first, she is resistant, as Dean pulls her towards the door.
Dean: Sam's got your kids, come on.
INT. COOPER UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - NIGHT
Jenny, then Dean, run out of the bedroom, heading for the stairway down.
INT. SAIRIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
While carrying Ritchie in his arms, Sam goes to Sairie's bedroom.
Sairie: Help! Please.
In the doorway, he holds Ritchie tightly to himself when he sees the figure in flames. Sairie is crying, sitting up in her bed. After gathering his courage, Sam slides into the room, around the edge, and goes to Sairie's bed.
Sam: Come here. Come here.
He picks her up in his other arm.
Sam: Don't look. Don't look!
Sam leaves the bedroom, holding both kids in his arms, sliding out the edge of the room the same way he came in.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean and Jenny rush out of the house. She is panting heavily, as Dean stops her flight and they both turn around to look back at the house. The front door is open, with a light shining through it, but it is empty. Dean is worried - Sam should've been right behind him.
INT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Sam rushes down the stairs, hearing growling. He pauses for a second, thinking and panting. Sam puts the kids down on the floor, turning Sairie to face him.
Sam: All right, Sairie, take your brother outside as fast as you can, and don't look back.
He hands Ritchie to her, as he can feel something grab him from behind. Suddenly, an invisible force makes Sam fall to the floor. Sairie screams, before grabbing Ritchie to run. Sam is pulled on his front feet-first through the house into the kitchen, trying to grab something to stop himself and finally crashing into a table against the far wall.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Sairie is running outside, holding onto Ritchie's hand tightly, towards Dean and Jenny.
Jenny: Are you okay, baby?
Jenny grabs Ritchie up, picking him up to hold him. Dean kneels down to Sairie's eye level, grabbing the girl on her arms.
Dean: Sairie, where's Sam?
Sairie is crying.
Sairie: He's inside. Something's got him.
Panicked, Dean looks at the front door. The camera pans closer. The door slams shut on its own.
The screen goes black.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean opens the trunk of the Impala, before lifting the compartment cover to grab a shotgun. He breaks it open and checks for rounds in the barrel, before grabbing more rounds and slamming the trunk closed. Dean runs across the road; he has an axe in his hand. Jenny is crouched down next to Sairie and holding Ritchie on the front lawn.
Jenny:
(quietly) Are you okay?
There are 5 neighbors - a woman and two men, and another couple standing a few feet away - across the street watching the scene unfold. Dean runs back to the front door, panting heavily. He takes his right foot and kicks at the door, but it remains stubbornly closed.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT
Sam gets pulled up against the wall tightly.
Sam: Oh God.
He grunts with force to try to break free. Then he gets flung into a set of cabinets, before he falls to the floor. He groans.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean takes the ax and begins chopping the front door. He hits it four times.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT
Sam staggers to his feet, breathing heavily, before he is violently thrown and pinned against a wooden door by the invisible force. He grunts with effort to try to move. He manages to pull his head away slightly, but it is shoved back forcibly against the wood.
Sam: Aaahh!!
He also manages to move his hand slightly before it, too, is forcibly shoved back against the wood. He pants heavily, as he is staring at something.
INT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean continues chopping down parts of the door. His hole is now large enough he can look inside.
Dean: Sam!
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT
The firelight is reflecting off of Sam, as he is caught and can not move. He breathes heavily, watching the fire figure as it makes its way across the living room area. The roaring fire is getting loud.
INT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean chops twice more, which makes a hole that he is able to duck down and step through.
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT
The fire figure is making its way slowly across the floor, heading towards Sam. The roaring fire is getting louder. Sam is staring intently at the fire figure, breathing hard.
INT. COOPER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean runs through the house, looking for Sam. He has pulled out his shotgun, ready for the poltergeist.
Dean: Sam?
INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT
Sam is still watching the fire figure, struggling slightly. Sam turns his head in the direction of Dean's voice.
Dean (voiceover): Sam!
Dean walks into the kitchen and finds Sam, and the fire figure. As he looks at the fire figure, he steps in front of Sam to protect him, and he raises his gun.
Sam: No, don't! Don't!
Dean: What, why?!
The fire figure steps closer.
Sam: Because I know who it is.
Dean is incredulous.
Sam: I can see her now.
Suddenly, the fire is blown out, flickering out from around the edges last. The roar stops. Standing in front of them is Mary Winchester, her hair softly blowing around her face, exactly as she was the night she died. Her eyes open, and she gives a soft smile at her boys. Dean's expression softens. In shock, his hand shakes as he lowers his gun slowly. He stares, disbelieving, at her.
Dean:
(softly) Mom?
Mary smiles and steps over to him. A pause.
Mary: Dean.
Dean can not stop staring at her wonderingly. Mary walks away from him and goes to Sam, who is still pinned to the wooden door. She looks up at her youngest, smiling sadly.
Mary: Sam.
Sam smiles weakly, crying. His mother's smile fades.
Mary: I'm sorry.
Sam is fighting tears, but he shakes his head slightly.
Sam: For what?
She looks at him sadly, but says nothing. She walks away from them and looks up at the ceiling. Her voice takes on a creepy echo, filled with power.
Mary: You, get out of my house. And let go of my son.
Once again, she bursts into flames. Dean flinches away. When she is entirely engulfed, the fire reaches the ceiling and disappears. The force holding Sam to the wall is released. Sam pants, and takes a couple of steps, looking around. Dean is looking around too, trying to see Mom again.
Dean:
(softly) Ma-?
The two of them look at each other, stunned.
Sam: Now it's over.
There is a sad look on Sam's face.
EXT. IMPALA - DAY
The next morning, Dean is standing by the car with the old chest in the back seat. He is looking through old photos. The first one the camera shows is of Mary and John. The second one is of him, holding Sam as a baby. Dean looks up at Jenny, who is standing next to him.
Dean: Thanks for these.
Jenny: Don't thank me, they're yours.
Dean puts the photos into the chest, and closes the lid.
EXT. COOPER HOUSE - DAY
Sitting on the front steps of the house, Sam is joined by Missouri, who walks out of the house and sits down next to him.
Missouri: Well, there are no spirits in there anymore, this time for sure.
Sam: Not even my mom?
She shakes her head sadly at him.
Missouri: No.
Sam looks away for a moment, before turning back to her sadly.
Sam: What happened?
Missouri: Your mom's spirit and the poltergeist's energy, they cancelled each other out. Your mom destroyed herself goin' after the thing.
Sam: Why would she do something like that?
Sam is confused. Missouri gives him a look of understanding.
Missouri: Well, to protect her boys, of course.
Sam nods, with tears in his eyes, looking away. Missouri goes to put her hand on his shoulder to comfort him, but she stops herself.
Missouri: Sam, I'm sorry.
Sam: For what?
Missouri: You sensed it was here, didn't you? Even when I couldn't.
Sam fights with himself, but he needs to know. He turns back to her.
Sam: What's happening to me?
Missouri: I know I should have all the answers, but...
Missouri shakes her head.
Missouri: I don't know.
Dean calls from offscreen.
Dean: Sam, you ready?
Sam looks over at Dean and gives a small smile, before glancing back at Missouri sadly.
EXT. IMPALA - DAY
Jenny pats Dean on the shoulder.
Dean: Bye.
Jenny: Bye.
She crosses her front lawn. Sam heads to the car, with Missouri standing up on the steps. Jenny touches Sam's arm as they pass.
Jenny: Thanks Sam.
Sam continues to the Impala. Jenny stops behind Missouri, turning to the boys.
Missouri: Don't you boys be strangers.
Dean: We won't.
Missouri: See you around.
Jenny waves, before she heads back to the house. The boys smile slightly, and climb in the Impala. Dean looks once more at Missouri, before he drives away. Missouri is the only one standing outside the house, watching the boys leave. The Impala slowly drives down the street. Missouri watches.
INT. MISSOURI'S HOUSE - DAY
Missouri comes inside and sets her purse on the table. She sighs twice.
Missouri: That boy... he has such powerful abilities.
She puts her keys down.
Missouri: Why he couldn't sense his own father, I have no idea.
She steps into her living room. The camera pans over to her shoulder to focus on her couch, where John Winchester is sitting, rubbing his face with his hands. He turns to look at her.
John: Mary's spirit... do you really think she saved the boys?
Missouri: I do.
John nods sadly and twists his wedding ring on his finger.
Missouri: John Winchester, I could just slap you. Why won't you go talk to your children?
John:
(tearfully) I want to. You have no idea how much I wanna see 'em. But I can't. Not yet.
He faces her.
John: Not until I know the truth.
The screen goes black.

INT. GUENTHER'S AUTO REPAIR - DAY
Mike Guenther is uncomfortable, talking with Dean.
Mike: To tell you the truth, uh, it got so bad I called Social Services on 'em.
Sam looking concerned. Dean is looking slightly pissed.
Dean: Why would you do something like that?
Mike: He sold his half of the garage and bought guns. Said his family was in danger. And then, that's, uh, that's when he took off with the boys, just vanished.
Sam: You ever see him again?
Mike: No.
Mike is uncomfortable.
Mike: But, you know I still think of them from time to time.
A pause.
Mike: Well, I just hope he got himself well.
Dean: Well, maybe he was never sick. Maybe you should've stuck by your friend.
Sam glances at Dean, before deciding it's time to leave.
Sam: You've been very helpful. Thank you very much. Good day.
Sam puts his hand on Dean's shoulder to give him a slight push. Dean, still glaring at the man, turns and walks off with Sam following. Mike sighs.

INT. COOPER HOUSE - DAY
Jenny is talking on the phone, while Ritchie is jumping up and down inside the playpen. She is cleaning the table off.
Jenny: Look, I-I feel just awful about the poor man's hand.
A frustrated sigh.
Jenny: But how can I be held liable?
A pause.
Jenny: Yeah, but I can't afford a lawyer.
Another pause, as she starts to hear strange noises from the house She looks up and around, trying to follow the location of the noises.
Jenny: OK, just listen, you-you-you just gotta let me call you back.
Jenny hangs up the phone, before putting it down on the table. She talks with Ritchie, occasionally still looking up.
Jenny: Ritchie, okay, Mommy's going to be right back. Okay?
Ritchie: Okay
Jenny:
(whispers) Okay.
Ritchie sits down in his playpen.
