Another odd noise. He gets down on his knees and looks under the car. He sees something that horrifies him, and stands up quickly. An invisible force pulls him back to the ground, on his stomach. He is dragged under the car, screaming, until he is gone. Evan watches this, frightened, before he shuts the curtains. The loud screeching noise happens again.

SAM?

EXT. KUGEL'S KEG - NIGHT
"Rocky Mountain Way" by Joe Walsh starts to play. Shot of the outside of a bar in the fog, with the yellow neon sign of KUGEL'S KEG with a wolf's head. A row of parked motorcycles is in the foreground. One lone car is driving down the road.

INT. KUGEL'S KEG - NIGHT
The crack of pool is heard. Sam is having a beer at a table, looking at research. Dean is nearby, throwing darts.
Sam: So, local police have now ruled out foul play. Apparently, there were signs of a struggle.
Dean: Well, you know they could be right, it could just be a kidnapping. Maybe this isn't our kind of gig.
Sam: Yeah, maybe not. Except for this-Dad marked the area, Dean.
Dean comes to the table and looks at their father's journal, and takes a drink.
Sam: Possible hunting grounds of a phantom attacker.
Dean: Why would he even do that?
Sam: Well, he found a lot of local folklore about a dark figure that comes out at night, grabs people, then vanishes. He found this too. This county has more missing persons per capita than anywhere else in the state.
Dean: That is weird.
Dean heads back to his game of darts.
Sam: Yeah.
Dean: Don't phantom attackers usually snatch people from their beds? Jenkins was taken from a parking lot.
Music:Spent the last year, Rocky Mountain way
Sam: Well, there are all kinds. You know, Spring Heeled Jacks, phantom gassers. They-they take people anywhere, anytime. Look, Dean, I don't know if this is our kind of gig either.
Music:Couldn't get much higher
Dean: Yeah, you're right, we should ask around more tomorrow.
Sam: Right.
Music:Out to pasture, think it's safe to say
Sam takes out his wallet and sighs.
Sam: I saw a motel about five miles back.
Dean: Whoa, whoa, easy. Let's have another round.
Music:Time to open fire
Sam shakes his head no.
Sam: We should get an early start.
Sam stands up.
Dean: You really know how to have fun, don't you, Grandma?
Sam smiles.
Music:We don't need the ladies...
Dean: Alright.
Dean throws his last dart.
Music:...cryin' cause the story's sad
Dean: I'll meet you outside, I gotta take a leak.
Dean grabs his coat and heads to the bathroom. Sam gathers his research and leaves.

EXT. KUGEL'S KEG - NIGHT
A loud cricket chirping is heard. A motorcycle engine is purring nearby.
Music:'Cause the Rocky Mountain way
is better than the way we had
Sam walks out of the bar, heading back to the car. Motorcycle engine stops, and two motorcyclists head for the bar. Sam hears a noise and stops. He places the journal on the trunk of the car and takes out a flashlight from his coat pocket. He turns it on and looks around, then bends down to look under the car. A cat swipes at him.
Sam: Whoa!
Sam jumps back. The cat makes an angry noise, then runs away. Sam laughs at himself. He gets up, shaking his head, then leans against the car. The camera gives a view from under the car and focuses on Sam's feet.

EXT. KUGEL'S KEG - NIGHT, LATER
Minutes later. Dean comes out of the bar and walks to the car. He notices the journal on the trunk. Dean opens the car door and checks to see if Sam is inside, but he isn't there. He looks around, concerned that Sam is missing.

EXT. KUGEL'S KEG - NIGHT, LATER
A group of people come out of the bar. Dean walks up to a biker and his girlfriend, who are clearly drunk.
Dean: Hey! Hey, you guys been outside, around here, in the last hour or so?
They shake their head and walk away.
Dean: Sam!
He looks around frantically.
Dean: Sammy!
As he is turning around, checking, he notices a surveillance camera on top of a streetlight. Dean walks into the middle of the deserted road and looks around.
Dean: Sam.
The screen goes black.

ACT ONE

MISSING PERSONS REPORT

EXT. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - DAY
Impala is parked. The camera pans from the car, up and over, to the sign of Sheriff's Department of Hibbing County, Minnesota.

INT. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - DAY
A deputy, Kathleen, is looking at Dean's fake ID.
Kathleen: So, what can we do for you, Officer Washington?
Dean: I'm working a missing persons.
Kathleen: I didn't know the Jenkins case was being covered by the state police.
Dean: Aah, no. No, there's someone else. Actually, it's my cousin. We were havin' a few last night at this bar down by the highway. And I haven't seen him since.
Kathleen: Does your cousin have a drinking problem?
Dean: Sam?
Dean gives a silent snort and a smile.
Dean: Two beers and he's doin' karaoke.
Kathleen smiles. Dean shakes his head.
Dean: He wasn't drunk. He was taken.
Kathleen nods. She walks over and sits down at her computer. Dean follows her behind the counter.
Kathleen: Alright. What's his name?
Dean: Winchester. Sam Winchester.
Kathleen: Like the rifle?
Dean: Like the rifle.
Dean sits. Kathleen types Sam's name in the computer and brings up his police record. It reads: RECORD ID DF-23094 Name: Samuel Winchester Born: May 2, 1983 Place of birth: Lawrence, Kansas Physical description: 6'4" Height 180-190 lbs Brown Hair, Brown Eyes No distinctive markings or tattoos RELEVANT LINKS: Dean Winchester (deceased) - brother of subject. She observes the page, then clicks on Dean's link and brings up his record. Dean's record reads: Record ID DF-23094 Name: Dean Winchester Born: January 24, 1979 Died: March 7, 2006 Place of birth: Lawrence, Kansas Place of death: St. Louis, Missouri Physical description: 6'4" Height 175 lbs Brown Hair, Green Eyes No distinctive markings or tattoos Subject was prime suspect in multiple homicide investigation in St. Louis area prior to his death RELEVANT LINKS: Sam Winchester - brother of subject
Kathleen: Samuel Winchester. So, you know that his brother, Dean Winchester, died in St. Louis. And, uh, was suspected of murder?
Kathleen looks up at him. Dean tries to look nonchalant.
Dean: Yeah, Dean. Heh. Kind of the black sheep of the family. Handsome, though.
Kathleen: Uh-huh.
She types something else and brings up more search results on the computer. It reads: MISSING PERSON SEARCH RESULTS CURRENT FIELD REPORTS: NO RESULTS HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS: NO RESULTS.
Kathleen: Well, he's not showing up in any current field reports.
Dean: Oh, I already have a lead. I saw a surveillance camera by the highway.
Kathleen: Uh-huh. The county traffic cam?
Dean: Right. Yeah. I'm thinking the camera picked up whatever took him. Or, whoever.
Kathleen: Well, I have access to the traffic cam footage down at the county works department, but - well, anyhow, let's do this the right way.
She stands up and gets some paperwork from a filing cabinet.
Kathleen: Why don't you... fill out... a missing persons report and sit tight over here?
She hands him a clipboard as he stands.
Dean: Officer, look, uh, he's family. I kind of-I kind of look out for the kid. You gotta let me go with you.
Kathleen: I'm sorry, I can't do that.
Dean: Well, tell me something. Your county has its fair share of missing persons. Any of 'em come back?
Kathleen drops her head.
Dean: Sam's my responsibility. And he's comin' back. I'm bringin' him back.
She stares at him. He's giving her his "God's Truth" face.

INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION - DAY
Sam is asleep in a cage. He jerks awake, panting, and observes his surroundings. He stands, looking over the bars. He rattles the bars of the cage. He looks around and notices Jenkins lying down in a cage next to his. He moves closer to him, before checking over the bars in his own cage.

EXT. COUNTY WORKS DEPARTMENT - DAY
Dean is sitting on a bench outside. Kathleen walks up behind him, holding printouts of the camera footage.
Kathleen: Greg.
He hears her and looks around.
Kathleen: I think we've got something.
He stands. She hands him the printouts and he looks through them.
Kathleen: These traffic cams take an image every three seconds, as part of the Amber Alert program? These images were all taken around the time that your cousin, Sam, disappeared.
Dean: This really isn't what I'm looking for.
Kathleen: Just wait, wait - next one.
He turns the page and sees an image of a rusty truck driving away.
Kathleen: This one was taken right after Sam left the bar. Look at the back end of that thing. Now, look at the plates.
Dean turns another page and sees a close-up image of the truck's license plates. Minnesota W5L 174.
Dean: The plates look new. It's probably stolen.
Kathleen: So, whoever's driving that rust bucket must be involved.
A beat-up van drives by. Its engine is whining loudly. Dean looks up, and watches the van go by.
Dean: Hear that engine?
Kathleen: Yeah.
Dean: Kind of a whining growl, isn't it?
Kathleen: Sure?
She's unsure what he's driving at. Dean stares at the van as it drives away.
Dean: (to himself) I'll be damned.

JUST PEOPLE

INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION - DAY
Sam is trying to kick down the door of his cage. He tries three times, but he fails. Jenkins groans and wakes up. Sam rushes over to talk to him through the bars of their cages.
Sam: You're alive?
Jenkins groans again.
Jenkins: Ooh. Huh?
Sam: Hey, you okay?
Jenkins: Does it look like I'm doin' okay?
Sam: Where are we?
Jenkins: I don't know. The country, I think. Smells like the country.
Sam: You're Alvin Jenkins, aren't you?
Jenkins: Yeah.
Sam chuckles, shaking his head and dropping it.
Sam: Wow. I was lookin' for ya.
Jenkins: Oh, yeah?
Sam: Yeah.
Jenkins: Well, no offense, but this is a piss-poor rescue.
Sam: Well, my brother's out there right now, too. He's-he's lookin' for us. So-
Jenkins: So, he's not gonna find us. We're in the middle of nowhere.
He nods towards the door leading into the building.
Jenkins: Waiting for them to come back and do God-knows-what to us.
Sam: What are they? Have you seen them?
Jenkins: What are you talking about?
Sam: Whatever grabbed us, what'd they look like?
The noise of a door opening is heard.
Jenkins: See for yourself.
Jenkins slides away from the side. The door to the building opens and two men wearing black coats and hats walk in. Jenkins grabs the bars on his cage. One man walks over to Jenkins' cage and kicks the side of it. Jenkins moves back into the corner. The other man goes to a panel of buttons attached to a pole in the middle of the room. He inserts a key into the panel and twists it. Jenkins' cage unlocks. One man enters.
Jenkins: Leave me alone! Don't you touch me, leave me alone!
He places a plate of food in front of Jenkins. He leaves the cage, and it closes behind him. Jenkins springs forward and starts devouring his food. One of them hits Sam's cage, causing him to flinch back. They walk over to the panel. One of the men twists the key again and removes it, which locks the cage.
Sam: (to himself) I'll be damned.
They leave.
Sam: They're just people.
Jenkins: Yeah. What'd you expect?
Sam: How often do they feed you?
Jenkins: Once a day. They use that thing over there to open the cage.
He points to the panel.
Sam: And that's the only time you see 'em?
Jenkins: So far. But I'm waitin'.
Sam: Waitin' for what?
Jenkins: Ned Beatty time, man.
Sam: I think that's the least of your worries right now.
Jenkins: Oh, yeah?
Sam: Yeah.
Jenkins: What do you think they want, then?
Sam reaches through the top of his cage and grabs a long metal conduit stretching from the top of the pole to the ground. He tries to pull it down.
Sam: Depends on who they are.
Jenkins: They're a bunch of psycho hillbilly rednecks, if you ask me. Lookin' for love in all the wrong places.
Sam continues to pull on the conduit, grunting slightly. It gradually starts to detach from the pole.

EXT. SHERIFF'S CAR - EVENING
The sheriff's car is driving through a foggy forest in the evening.

INT. SHERIFF'S CAR - NIGHT
Kathleen and Dean are checking out the route taken by the truck. Kathleen points to a passing traffic camera.
Kathleen: Okay, the next traffic cam is fifty miles from here, and your pickup didn't pass that one, so...
Dean: So, it must've pulled off somewhere.
Dean is looking at a map.
Dean: I don't see any other roads here.
Kathleen: Well, a lot of these backwoods properties have their own private roads.
Dean: (annoyed) Great.
He stares out the window. New information comes up on Kathleen's computer. She clicks the highlighted item and brings up a page about Dean's fake ID. She reads it and looks concerned. It reads: INCOMING MESSAGE FROM Central Dispatch Re: REQUEST FOR INFO - MINNESOTA STATE POLICE BADGE NO. 1839 GREGORY WASHINGTON. She gives Dean a thoughtful look, before facing the road.
Kathleen: So, Gregory.
Dean turns to glance at her, before looking back to his side of the road.
Dean: Yeah?
Kathleen: I ran your badge number. It's routine when we're working a case with state police. For accounting purposes and what have you.
Dean is giving her his full attention.
Dean: Mmhmm.
Kathleen: And, uh, they just got back to me.
She pulls the car over to the side of the road.
Kathleen: Says here your badge was stolen.
Dean looks surprised.
Kathleen: And there's a picture of you.
She turns the computer to Dean. He sees a picture of a heavy African-American man. Awkward pause.
Dean: I lost some weight.
He chuckles.
Dean: And I got that Michael Jackson skin disease.
Kathleen shakes her head like she can't believe him, and takes off her seatbelt.
Kathleen: Okay, would you step out of the car, please?
Dean: Look, look, look.
She stops.
Dean: You wanna arrest me, that's fine. I'll cooperate, I swear. But, first, please... let me find Sam.
Kathleen: I don't even know who you are. Or if this Sam person is missing.
Dean: Look into my eyes and tell me if I'm lying about this.
Kathleen: Identity theft? You're impersonating an officer.
Dean: Here's the thing. When-when... when we were young, I pretty much pulled him from a fire. And ever since then, I've felt responsible for him. You know, like it's my job to keep him safe. I'm just afraid if we don't find him fast...
His voice breaks. Thunder crashes.
Dean: Please. He's my family.
She is shaking her head no, before facing him.
Kathleen: I'm sorry. You've given me no choice. I have to take you in.
She glances at her visor. Her eye catches a photo of her and another man, smiling. She looks thoughtful, glancing back at Dean, and sighs. She fastens her seatbelt.
Kathleen: After we find Sam Winchester.
Dean looks confused.

HUNTING JENKINS

INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION - NIGHT
Sam is still trying to pull the metal conduit from the beam.
Jenkins: What's your name, again?
Sam: Aaaah! It's Sam.
Jenkins: Why don't you give it up, Sammy? There's no way out.
Sam: Don't... c-call me... Sammy!
He groans and finally tears the conduit down. A small piece of metal falls on the floor also. Sam coughs with the dust that fell as well.
Jenkins: What is it?
Sam picks it up and looks at it.
Sam: It's a bracket.
Jenkins: Well, thank God, a bracket. Now we've got 'em, huh?
Suddenly, Jenkins' cage unlocks itself with a metal clang and opens.
Jenkins: Must've been a short.
He peeks out of the open door.
Jenkins: Maybe you knocked somethin' loose.
He climbs out of the cage.
Sam: I-I think you should get back in there, Jenkins.
Jenkins: What?
Sam: This isn't right.
Jenkins: Don't you wanna get out of here?
Sam: Yeah. But that was too easy.
Jenkins: Look, I'm gonna get out of here. I'm gonna send help, okay, don't worry.
Sam: No! I'm serious! Jenkins! This might be a trap!
Jenkins: Bye, Sammy.
He pushes open the door and leaves.
Sam: Jenkins!
On the other side of the door, Jenkins is in another room similar to the one he just left. He finds an exit and leaves. Jenkins' cage slams shut and locks. Sam helplessly hits his cage, frustrated.

EXT. UNKNOWN LOCATION HOUSE - NIGHT
It's raining. Jenkins continues to carefully walk, checking out to the side and rear as he goes. He finds a knife in the gravel drive near the house. He looks up to the sky.
Jenkins: Thank you.
He glances up at the house, then takes off running.

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT
Jenkins is walking through the woods, and hears voices hooting and laughing. He raises his knife, then starts to run in the rain. Before long, Jared in camouflage jumps in front of him and knocks him down with a long pole to the face. Jenkins falls to the ground, and scrambles to get his knife. Jared laughs, and starts to bring the knife at the end of the pole down, but Jenkins sticks his own knife in the Jared's leg. He stumbles, allowing Jenkins to get up and run away. Jared sticks his knife into the dirt where Jenkins was. He has his stick back in his hand, and starts after Jenkins once more. Jenkins is running, checking behind himself. Another whooping call is heard. Jenkins reaches a clearing, and slows down. He looks around. Suddenly, another camouflaged man, Lee, appears and puts his knife through Jenkins' leg, then removes it. Jared appears, and they both point their knives at Jenkins, who is on the ground. They laugh, enjoying this. He first is able to keep them at bay with his knife, before it is knocked out of his grasp. Jenkins is able to get up and hobble away. The men watch him and laugh. Jenkins keeps trying to run, half holding his bleeding leg and stumbling. Eventually, though, he trips over a thin wire on the ground and falls. The two men catch up to him, hooting and excited, and raise their knives. Jenkins looks up at them in horror. They bring down their knifes. The camera zooms on Jenkins, as if he is being stabbed.

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT
Jenkins' scream is heard.

EXT. UNKNOWN LOCATION HOUSE - NIGHT
Jenkins' scream is heard.

INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION - NIGHT
Sam can hear Jenkins screaming. The screen goes black.

ACT TWO

FINDING THE HOME PLACE

EXT. STREET - DAY
Dean and Kathleen are walking back to the car, holding cups of coffee.
Dean: Hey, Officer? Look, I don't mean to press my luck.
Kathleen: Your luck is so pressed.
They glance at each other.
Dean: Right. I was wondering-
They stop walking and face each other.
Dean: why are you helping me out, anyway? Why don't you just lock me up?
Kathleen: My brother, Riley, disappeared three years ago. A lot like Sam. We searched for him, but... nothing. I know what it's like to feel responsible for someone, and for them...
She looks away, then back to Dean.
Kathleen: Come on. Let's keep at it.
She gets in the car. Dean gives her a thoughtful look.

EXT. ROADSIDE/EDGE OF FOREST - DAY
Kathleen and Dean are driving by in the Hibbing County Sheriff car.
Dean: (voiceover) Wait, w-w-wait, pull over here. Pull over.
They pull over and Dean gets out of the car, followed by Kathleen. She heads around the car.
Dean: It's the first turn-off I've seen so far.
Dean starts to head into the forest, with Kathleen following.
Kathleen: You stay here, I'll check it out.
Dean: No way.
Kathleen: Hey.
They stop walking, turning to face each other.
Kathleen: You're a civilian. And a felon, I think. I'm not taking you with me.
Dean looks down the road, then back at her.
Dean: You're not goin' without me.
Dean settles his serious face. Kathleen looks forward, sighs, and then look back towards the car. After a moment she faces Dean.
Kathleen: Alright. You promise you won't get involved? You'll let me handle it?
Dean: Yeah, I promise.
Kathleen: Shake on it.
She extends her hand. Dean shakes it. While they are shaking hands, Kathleen places a set of handcuffs on Dean's arm. He realizes he's been had.
Dean: Oh, come on.

EXT. SIDE OF ROAD/SHERIFF CAR - DAY
Kathleen handcuffs Dean to the door handle and starts walking away. He can't believe she pulled that crap on him.
Dean: (to himself) This is ridiculous. Kathleen, I really think you're gonna need my help.
Kathleen: I'll manage.
She locks the door.
Kathleen: Thank you.
She walks away. He pulls at the handcuffs on the door handle a few times, patting his pocket with his other hand.
Dean: I gotta start carrying paper clips.
He looks down at the handcuffs.

EXT. ROAD - DAY
Kathleen is walking. She passes a rundown barn with a fire in it, along with several wagon wheels strewn along the grass. She walks further and sees a dilapidated house with a clunker of the truck from the surveillance photo. She makes her way through the muddy road to the front porch.
Kathleen: Hello?
She climbs up the stairs.
Kathleen: Anybody home?
She knocks on the door. She steps away from the door, looking about. The door unlocks, and Kathleen spins around to see who it is. A young girl, Missy, comes outside, covered in dirt and filth. She is unwashed and has long, uncombed hair.
Kathleen: Hi. Who are you?
Missy shuts the door behind her, comes closer and examines Kathleen's badge, pinned on her coat.
Missy: Who are you?
Kathleen: I'm, uh, I'm Kathleen. I'm a deputy. What's your name?
Missy drops her hand, and backs up slightly. She is odd.
Missy: Missy.
Kathleen: Missy. That's a pretty name. Missy, is your mom home?
Missy: She's dead.
Kathleen: I'm sorry. Are, uh - What about your dad?
Missy shakes her head.
Kathleen: No? Can I come in for a minute?
Missy shakes her head again and starts moving backwards towards the door.
Kathleen: I just want you to look at a picture.
She takes a picture of Sam from her coat pocket and shows it to Missy.
Kathleen: Have you seen that guy?
Missy takes the picture and looks at it.
Kathleen: Look at that picture.
Missy looks up and sees something behind Kathleen. She smiles wickedly.
Kathleen: What?
Missy: That's gonna hurt.
Kathleen turns around and sees a tall, equally unwashed man, Pa Bender, standing beside her. He hits her in the head with a shovel, and she falls to the ground, unconscious.
Pa: Missy, sweetheart, go tell your brothers I wanna see 'em.
Missy: Yes, Daddy.
She glances down at Kathleen before she walks away, admiring the picture of Sam she still holds. Pa Bender sniffs, and starts to bend over Kathleen.

EXT. SIDE OF ROAD/SHERIFF'S CAR - DAY
Dean is looking around for something to unlock the handcuffs. He notices the antenna of the car and reaches for it, but he is too far away. He hears the screech of the pickup truck.
Dean: Oh, son of a bitch.
He stretches further, half stretching his entire body over the side of the car, groaning with the effort.

EXT. ROAD IN WOODS - DAY
The pickup truck is driving.

EXT. SIDE OF ROAD/SHERIFF'S CAR - DAY and ROAD IN WOODS - DAY, alternating
Dean is still reaching for the antenna, grunting with the effort. He manages to grab it, and blows out with effort.
Jared and Lee Bender unlock a gate next to a handpainted sign that says "No Trespassing".
Dean begins to unscrew the antenna.
Lee and Jared are walking.
With a final grunt, the antenna comes loose and falls to the ground. Dean picks it up.
Jared and Lee walk, one of them laughing.
Dean breaks part of it off, and begins to pick the lock, checking over his shoulder as he does so.
The boys walk some more.
Dean almost has the cuffs open.
They reach a clearing and see the car. Lee hits Jared companionably, pointing out the car. The camera pans to the side of the car, but Dean is gone.

Lee: But I've never seen him so angry before.
Jared: Well, Lee, never been followed by the police before.
Lee, who now has Kathleen's keys, unlocks the car door. He looks back at Jared and chuckles, then gets in and closes the door.

FINDING SAM

INT. BARN - DAY
Kathleen is in a cage. She is wearing a dirty white T-shirt, and her hair is down. She wakes up and sighs, massaging her head.
Sam: (off screen) You alright?
She slowly sits up, looking over at him.
Kathleen: Are you Sam Winchester? Aren't you?
Sam: Yeah.
Kathleen: Your, uh... Your cousin's looking for you.
Sam is relieved, shaking his head at the idea of "cousin".
Sam: Thank God. Where is he?
Kathleen: I, uh... I cuffed him to my car.
Sam sighs. The door opens and someone enters. The camera pans up to show Dean. Dean observes the barn, disgusted. Sam and Kathleen don't know who it is, and tense, looking at each other. Dean sees Sam in his cage.
Dean: Sam?
Sam smiles.
Dean: Are you hurt?
Sam: No.
Dean hits the cage.
Dean: Damn, it's good to see you.
They stare at each other, glad.
Kathleen: How did you get out of the cuffs?
Dean turns around and sees her.
Dean: I know a trick or two.
She stares at him, confused.
Dean: Alright.
He moves to the door of the cage and sees the locks.
Dean: Oh, these locks look like they're gonna be a bitch.
Sam: Well, there's some kind of automatic control right there.
Sam points to the control panel.
Dean: Have you seen 'em?
Sam: Yeah. Dude, they're just people.
Dean: And they jumped you? Must be gettin' a little rusty there, kiddo.
He walks over to the control panel and starts trying different buttons.
Dean: What do they want?
Sam: I don't know. They let Jenkins go, but that was some sort of trap. It doesn't make any sense to me.
Dean: Well, that's the point. You know, with our-
Dean glances at Kathleen.
Dean: our usual playmates, there's these rules, there's patterns. But with people,
Dean closes the box.
Dean: they're just crazy.
Sam: See anything else out there?
Dean is looking over the locked system on the cages.
Dean: Uh, he has about a dozen junked cars hidden out back. Plates from all over, so I'm thinkin' when they take someone, they take their car, too.
Kathleen: Did you see a black Mustang? Out there, about ten years old?
He looks down at her.
Dean: Yeah, actually, I did.
She looks sad.
Dean: Your brother's?
She nods, closing her eyes and looking away.
Dean: I'm sorry.
He pauses.
Dean: Let's get you guys out of here, then we'll take care of those bastards.
He points to the control panel.
Dean: This thing takes a key. Key?
Sam: I don't know.
Dean: Alright, I better go find it.
He starts to leave.
Sam: Hey.
Dean stops and turns around.
Sam: Be careful.
Dean: Yeah.
He slaps the cover on the control panel, then leaves.

EXT. BENDER HOUSE - NIGHT
A wide shot of the house, windmill, and the barn where the prisoners are kept.

INT. BENDER HOUSE BASEMENT - NIGHT
Dean is in another dark room. He turns on his flashlight in his face, flinches, and starts to look around. The room is filled with shelves of jars and bottles, which contain various body parts. Dean looks at a container filled with a brain.
Dean: Yikes.
He keeps searching the room and comes across a chicken wire wall full of Polaroid pictures. Each photo shows Jared and Lee standing next to a dead body. He notices a picture of them holding Jenkins' corpse, turning the picture upside down to identify Jenkins.
Dean: Well, I'll say it again - demons I get. People are crazy.
He tosses the picture on the bench. He climbs the flight of stairs, carefully, glancing down once on hearing a squeaky stair.

INT. BENDER HOUSE, MAIN FLOOR - NIGHT
The overhead fan lazily turns. Pa Bender is offscreen, in the kitchen, butchering something. A record is playing "Sweet and Low Down" by George Gershwin in the background. Another shot of the empty, dirty house - of the hallway, and part of the dining room and living room. Dean comes upstairs and looks around the living room. He sees Pa Bender in the kitchen. Dean bumps into a windchime. He grabs it to keep it from sounding, and then notices what it's made of.
Dean: (whispers) What the-?
The windchime is made of bones. He carefully makes his way through the hallway.
The camera focus on the phonograph, before it refocuses on Pa Bender in the kitchen. He put down a meat cleaver, and picks up a saw. Sounds of a saw cutting through bone.
Dean sees a wooden pole with a wicked looking nail out of the end leaning against the wall and picks it up. He makes his way carefully toward the kitchen. He notices a small tray filled with keys on a nearby table. Dean takes a peek inside the kitchen. Pa turns around to pick up a meat cleaver, and Dean turns away before he can be spotted. He moves towards the tray of keys, putting the wooden pole up against the wall to pick it up the tray of keys. Sounds of water running comes from the kitchen. He notices a jar full of teeth. He examines the teeth, disgusted, then hears the floor creak behind him. He sets the jar down and turns around quickly. Missy is standing before him. She startles, gasping softly, before backing up. Dean risks a glance to the kitchen, turning loose of his makeshift weapon, before coming towards her.

Dean: Shh-shh-shh. It's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you.
She pulls out a knife.
Missy: I know.
She throws and sticks the knife into Dean's jacket, pinning him against the wall.
Missy: Daddy!
Dean: Jeez!
Missy: Daddy! Daddy!
Dean removes the knife. Jared and Lee come downstairs.
Missy: Daddy!
Jared grabs Dean under his arms. Lee runs towards them, but Dean jumps up and kicks him to the floor. Jared throws Dean's head into one wall, then tosses him across to the other wall, crashing into a shelf, causing the knife to fall to the floor. Jared reaches to grab Dean, who punches Jared twice before Jared falls. Lee yells as he runs towards Dean, but Dean grabs him first and pushes him into the wall he'd hit moments before. Dean backs up, but is surrounded, so he kicks a wooden crate at Lee before turning to face Jared. Dean ducks the first punch, then punches Jared. He turns back to face Lee, but is grabbed and thrown into the wall again by Lee, smashing more of the furniture. All three of them stand up. Dean is panting heavily, and is bleeding from a cut in the head. Dean points at Jared.
Dean: I'm gonna kick your ass first.
He points to Lee. Pa comes up behind Dean with an iron pan.
Dean: And then yours.
Pa hits Dean over the head with a pan. Dean falls to the floor, unconscious. The screen goes black.

ACT THREE

HUNTING HUMAN

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
The Benders are crowded around Dean, who is sitting in a chair, with his hands tied behind his back. There is a fire going in the fireplace behind him. He wakes up, groaning.
Lee: (to Pa) Come on. Let us hunt him.
Jared: Yeah, this one's a fighter. Sure would be fun to hunt.
Pa laughs.
Dean: Oh, you gotta be kiddin' me. That's what this is about? You... you yahoos hunt people?
Pa: You ever killed before?
Dean: Wh-
Dean laughs.
Dean: Well, that depends on what you mean.
Pa: I've hunted all my life. Just like my father, his before him. I've hunted deer... and bear... I even got a cougar once. Oh boy. But the best hunt... is human.
Pa leans forward for emphasis. Dean is eying Pa as if he wants to shoot him. Pa's face has a look of ecstasy.
Pa: Oh, there's nothin' like it. Holdin' their life in your hands. Seein' the fear in their eyes just before they go dark. Makes you feel powerful alive.
Dean is glaring at Pa.
Dean: You're a sick puppy.
Pa: We give 'em a weapon. Give 'em a fightin' chance. It's kind of like... our tradition passed down, father to son.
Lee pets Missy's hair.
Pa: Of course, only one or two a year. Never enough to bring the law down. We never been that sloppy.
Dean: Oh. Yeah, well, don't sell yourself short. You're plenty sloppy. Ow.
Pa: So, what, you with that pretty cop?
Missy looks up at her brother Lee. He smiles.
Pa: You a cop?
Dean chuckles.
Dean: If I tell you, you promise not to make me into an ashtray?
Pa looks angry. Lee steps over and punches Dean. Dean groans once, then pants a bit in pain.
Pa: Only reason I don't let my boys take you right here and now is that there's somethin' I need to know.
He walks to the fireplace and takes a hot poker.
Dean: Yeah, how 'bout it's not nice to marry your sister?
Pa: Tell me-any of the cops gonna come lookin' for you?
Dean: Oh, eat me. No, no, no, wait, wait, wait-you actually might.
Jared walks over to Dean and grabs his head roughly to hold it in place.
Pa: You think this is funny? You brought this down on my family.
Dean is quiet, looking up at Pa with his head trapped.
Pa: Alright... you wanna play games? We'll play some games. (to boys) Looks like we're gonna have a hunt tonight after all, boys. (to Dean) And you get to pick the animal. The boy or the cop?
Dean is breathing hard.
Dean: Okay, wait, wait, wait. No. Look, nobody's comin' for me, alright? It's just us.
Pa: You don't choose, I will.
He places the hot poker on Dean's shirt, about his left collarbone. Dean screams in pain. Pa removes the poker. There is a burn mark on Dean's shirt.
Dean: Ugh! Oh! Oh! Ah, you son of a bitch!
Pa places the poker barely an inch from Dean's eye. He's sweaty, and one tear leaks out.
Pa: Next time, I'll take an eye.
Dean: Alright, the guy, the guy! Take the guy!
Pa moves the poker and Jared pushes Dean's head away. Pa takes a key from around his neck and hands it to Lee.
Pa: Lee, go do it.
Pa grabs Lee's hand, keeping him from leaving.
Pa: Don't let him out, though. Shoot him in the cage.
Pa gives a slight push to Lee, and Lee walks to the guns.
Dean: What? I thought you said you were gonna hunt him. You were gonna give him a chance.
Pa: Lee, when you're done with the boy-shoot the bitch, too.
Lee nods and leaves, with his rifle.
Pa: We better clean this mess up before any more cops come runnin' out here.
Dean looks worried and upset.

INT. BARN - NIGHT
Lee enters and walks over to the control panel. He inserts the key and twists it.
Sam: What are you doing?
The door to his cage unlocks and Lee walks towards him. Sam notices the bracket on the floor and grabs it. Lee opens the cage door.
Kathleen: Hey!
Lee aims his gun.
Sam throws the bracket at Lee.

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Dean and the three Benders can hear a gunshot. Dean's voice is cracking, he's so furious.
Dean: If you hurt my brother, I'll kill you, I swear.
Dean is panting. Pa stands up, setting Missy off the chair arm.
Dean: I'll kill you all.
Pa walks towards the open front door. Dean is screaming.
Dean: (yelling) I will kill you all!
Pa barely pays attention to Dean, just barely glancing over at him, before calling out the door.
Pa: Lee!

INT. BARN - NIGHT
Sam and Lee are both out of the cage. Sam is on top of Lee. He grabs the gun and hits Lee in the face, then hits Lee with the gun butt twice, yelling each time. Lee collapses on the floor. Sam stands and tries to cock the gun, but it jammed.
Sam: Damn.
Sam's panting. He tosses it behind him, stepping over Lee's prone body.

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Pa: Lee!
Lee does not respond. Pa turns to the other three.
Pa: Jared, you come with me. Missy, you watch him now.
Missy turns to face Dean. Jared grabs two rifles, hands one to Pa, and they both leave. Missy remains next to Dean, holding and turning a knife dangerously close to his eye. Dean's furious, and nervous.

INT. BARN - NIGHT
Pa and Jared enter, guns raised, and look around.
Pa: Lee! Where are ya?
They look around, and don't see him.
Pa: Lee.
They find Lee unconscious, locked in Sam's cage.
Pa: Damn it. Jared, get the lights!
Jared moves over to the light switch and pushes it up. The barn remains dark.
Jared: They must have pulled the fuses.
Pa tries the control panel, but it is broken and he slams it shut. They move into another room of the barn, looking around. Sam moves behind a bale of hay. Pa and Jared hear a noise. Jared looks around in one area of the room, while Pa climbs a ladder leading to the loft.
Jared checks around the old tractor.
Pa finishes climbing into the loft, raising his gun and checking around.
Kathleen moves to a cabinet, unseen, and opens it, but the cabinet creaks so she stops. Jared also hears the soft click of the cabinet. He walks to the cabinet and stands to face it. He fires his rifle three times at the doors. Jared opens the cabinet, but finds nothing inside but tools. He turns to look around the barn, when, suddenly Kathleen falls on top of his back. She wraps her arms around his neck and wrestles with him, as he growls in frustration.
Sam peeks over the hay, and Pa fires at him. Sam makes a dash from behind the hay.
Kathleen is still choking Jared before he throws her against a pole. She turns loose, and falls to the ground.
Meanwhile, Pa is chasing after Sam. He fires his rifle again, but Sam somersaults and escapes.
While Kathleen is on the ground, Jared aims his gun at her.

Jared: You stupid bitch.
He gets ready to shoot her, but Sam careens through the door.
Sam: Hey!
Jared turns around and sees Sam. Pa walks in behind Sam. Jared fires the gun, but Sam ducks to dodge it. Pa gets hit with the bullet instead, and he falls to the ground. Pa grunts in pain. Jared cocks the gun and starts to turn around. Sam appears behind him and grabs the gun. Sam elbows him in the face, hits Jared in the solar plexus with the gun, and hits Jared twice in the face with the rifle, and Jared collapses, unconscious. Sam stands there over Jared, panting a few times. The screen goes black.

ACT FOUR

AFTERMATH

INT. BARN - NIGHT
Sam places Jared in Kathleen's cage and closes the door. He walks to the control panel and locks the cage. He makes his way over to Kathleen, who is standing over Pa, with her gun raised.
Kathleen: I'll watch this one. You go ahead.
Sam stares at her, motionless.
Kathleen: Go ahead.
Sam leaves.
Pa: You hurt my family, I'm gonna bleed you, bitch.
Kathleen: (tearfully) You killed my brother.
Pa: Your brother?
He laughs cruelly.
Pa: Now I see.
She is shaking her head no.
Kathleen: (quietly) Just tell me why.
Pa smiles.
Pa: Because it's fun.
He cackles. Kathleen looks at him, upset, and fires the gun.

EXT. BENDER HOUSE - NIGHT
Dean and Sam heard the shot and walk out the front door. They see Kathleen coming from the barn. Dean is favoring his left arm. They meet up with Kathleen in the middle of the yard.
Kathleen: Where's the girl?
Dean: Locked her in a closet. What about the dad?
She pauses.
Kathleen: Shot. Trying to escape.
All three of them exchange looks.

EXT. BENDER HOUSE - NIGHT, LATER
Dean and Sam are leaving together, followed by Kathleen.
Dean: I think the car's at the police station.
Kathleen is listening to a woman on her walkie-talkie.
Dispatcher: Backup units en route to your location.
Kathleen approaches Sam and Dean.
Kathleen: So, state police and the FBI are gonna be here within the hour. They're gonna wanna talk to you.
Dean and Sam stare at Kathleen. It's starting to rain.
Kathleen: I suggest that you're both long gone by then.
Sam nods.
Dean: Thanks. Hey, listen, I don't mean to press our luck, but we're kind of in the middle of nowhere. Think we could catch a ride?
Kathleen: Start walking. Duck if you see a squad car.
Sam: Sounds great to me. Thanks.
Sam starts to head out, then stops when Dean talks.
Dean: Listen, uh... I'm sorry about your brother.
Kathleen nods, looks away then back.
Kathleen: Thank you.
She begins to tear up.
Kathleen: It was really hard not knowing what happened to him. I thought it would be easier once I knew the truth, but... it isn't really.
She shakes her head, then pauses.
Kathleen: Anyway, you should go.
Kathleen gives a shaky smile. Sam and Dean turn and walk away. Kathleen watches them leave, close to tears.

EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Dean and Sam are walking.
Dean: Don't ever do that again.
Sam: Do what?
Dean: Go missin' like that.
Sam laughs.
Sam: You were worried about me.
Dean: All I'm sayin' is, you vanish like that again, I'm not lookin' for ya.
Sam: Sure, you won't.
Dean: I'm not.
Sam chuckles.
Sam: So, you got sidelined by a thirteen-year-old girl, huh?
Dean: Oh, shut up.
Sam: Just sayin', you're gettin' rusty there, kiddo.
Dean: (chuckling) Shut up.
Sam laughs. They continue walking as the screen fades to black.
