Chapter 6 records the pedigree of the Tribe of Levi, the Tribe God set apart as the "priestly" tribe, the Tribe of Moses through Levi's son, Kohath. Listed are the Priests from Aaron (1490 BC.) to the time of the captivity (587 BC.). Also listed are their duties and the cities given to them for their support in Canaan.

We are here told what their assigned duties were. They were assigned the singing choirs in the House of the Lord. They were assigned the duties of service in the House of the Lord. Lastly, they were assigned the duties relative to the sacrifices in the House of the Lord.
Lastly in this chapter, there is listed the cities that were assigned to the Levites in lieu of an inheritance. Seven cities whose names have changed from time to time but appear to have been scattered all over Israel that it might come to pass what was prophesied about this tribe in Gen.49:7.
