Chapter 8 gives an account of the Tribe of Benjamin, the Tribe of Saul, the Tribe that inherited most of Jerusalem, and a more complete account of the family of Saul ( 4-sons and 9-grandsons )
The sons of Benjamin, the last son of Jacob, are not carefully tabulated in the Bible. There are some differences in the various accounts as to their names and number. It is presumed that Ezra recorded what he found in the books of the Kings of Israel and Judah. The sons are listed here in the opening verses as Bela, Ashbel, Aharah, Nohah and Rapha.
As has been previously noted, Saul, Israel's first King, was of the Tribe of Benjamin. It is worth mentioning that none of the genealogies of any of the Kings are listed after David but here we have a great deal of information about the family of Saul. Saul's father was a man by the name of Ner and his grandfather was Kish. Actually, it is believed that his grandfather was Abiel.
Here Saul is listed as having 4 sons, Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab and Eshbaal. Only Jonathan is honored by listing his descendants presumably because of his kindness to David. The genealogy ends with Ulam whose family became famous in battle as great archers.
