Chapter 25 continues with the duties of the Levites who assisted the Priests. These were "readers" who read the scriptures to the accompaniment of musical instruments and were put under the leadership of David's private Chaplain. He also appointed singers and musicians, 288 of them were assigned periods of service by the casting of "lots".
These men were from the groups led by Asaph, Heman and Jeduthan. Under the leadership of Asaph, the King's private Prophet, were his sons, Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Ashareleh. Under the leadership of Heman, the King's private Chaplain, were his sons, Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Geddalti, Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir and Mahazioth. Under the leadership of Jeduthan, who led in giving thanks and phrasing the Lord, were his sons, Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah and Mattithiah. Asaph, Heman and Jeduthan reported directly to the King. They and their families were well trained in singing phrases, all 288 of them.
