Chapter 27 records some of David's faults. David was " a man after God's own heart", but he also had faults and they are recorded here for our edification not for our imitation. Here we see that David still does not trust Saul. He was tired of running and hiding so he decides to take his chances with the Philistines. He goes to the Philistine city of Gath and this time he receives a much better reception that he did the last time. He was given the protection of King Ach-ish of Gath. He settles down with two of his wives and lives there for a time.
He soon becomes uncomfortable living with the Philistines so he asks permission from King Ach-ish to move to Ziklag in the land of Judah. The King agreed and they moved and lived there for 16 months during which time, they raided to the south toward Egypt and killed the people Je-rah-meel and the Kenites. They left no one alive in the villages that they hit.
The King of Gath reasoned that by now the people of Israel must surly hate David. Now, he thought, David would stay and serve him forever.
