II Chronicles Introduction

Introduction

The book covers approximately 374 years beginning with the reign of Solomon and the building of the Temple (961 BC.) and continuing thru the remaining 20 kings of Judah to their captivity by Babylon (587 BC.).

The Kingdom of Judah was known as "The Kingdom of the House of David" as the linage of David was maintained thru the whole history of Judah and lasted approximately 450 years. Then after a period of approximately 587 years it shone forth in the coming of "The Kingdom of the Messiah", whose government and peace shall have no end.

Much of what we have in Second Chronicles was recorded in First and Second Kings. Many of the stories are enlarged upon and others added to, especially those relating to affairs of religion, for it is a church history.

We will divide the book into two parts:

  1. The forty-year reign of Solomon. Chapters 1 thru 9.
  2. The reigns of the last twenty kings of Judah. Chapters 10 thru 36.
