Jehoshaphat's Reign Continued

Click here to read II Chronicles 18.

Chapter 18 relates a "low point" in Jehoshaphat's reign. He had grown older but not wiser. He married his son to one of the daughters of Ahab, the wicked King of Israel. The question was why? Perhaps it was pride. Perhaps he thought it might unite the two Kingdoms, but, nothing good came of it.

  1. It drew "good" Jehoshaphat into a relationship with "bad" Ahab.
  2. It caused him to join up with Ahab against the Syrians.

But true to his beliefs, he consulted with the Prophets of God and they condemned the attack against the Syrians. For this, Ahab had them thrown into prison. When the attack was made, Ahab talked Jehoshaphat into going into battle wearing his kingly robes. He stood out like a light in the darkness and became the target for the whole Syrian army. Ahab attempted to disguise himself but God intervened and Jehoshaphat was rescued and Ahab was killed.
