The Reign of Ahaziah

Chapter 22 records the reign of Ahaziah, the only remaining son of Jehoram (841-840). He reigned for only one year and it can be summed up in two phrases:

1. He did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord.
2. He walked after the council of the ungodly, who in this case, was his mother, Athaliah.

His mother was responsible for his getting involved with Israel in a war with Syria in which he was wounded and later died.

Athaliah established herself as Queen and in an effort to transfer the line to the crown to her relations, she attempted to kill all who might continue the line of David but one of the sons of Ahaziah, Joash a one year old child, was saved.
