Chapter 27 records the reign of Jotham (750-731). He was 25 years old when he became King. He reigned for 16 years but he shared the reign for 11 years with his father Azariah. He was a godly man who walked in the ways of the Lord, but he did nothing to reform the evil ways of the people. His war against the Ammonites was successful so that for the following three years, he received an annual tribute of $200,000 in silver, 10,000 sacks of wheat and 10,000 sacks of barley. He became powerful because he followed the path of the Lord his God. He died of natural causes and was buried in Jerusalem and his son, Ahaz, became King.
