Chapter 29 records the reign of Hezekiah (715-686). He was 25 years old when he became King and reigned for 29 years. Under the leadership of the Prophet Micah, he instituted a series of religious and civil reforms. He restored Temple worship and was known as the "praying king". He defeated the Assyrians with the help of an Angel of the Lord. He became ill unto death, and God healed him.
In the first month of his reign, he reopened the doors to the Temple. He summoned the Priests and Levites and commanded them to purify themselves and to sanctify the Temple. He commanded them to clean all debris from around the Temple begin to do their assigned duties and the Levites went into action. They summons their fellow Levites and commanded them to sanctify themselves and to help clean up the Temple. The entire job both inside and outside the Temple took 16 days.
Then they reported back to King Jezekiah. They had completed the cleansing of the Temple and in the process; they had recovered and sanctified the Temple vessels that had been thrown away by King Ahaz when he closed the Temple. Early the next morning, King Hezekiah went to the Temple along with the city officials and offered sacrifices for the sins of the people. He instructed the Priests to sacrifice them on the altar to the Lord. He organized the Levites who were in charge of music and he did this according to the directions of David.
So it was that the Temple was restored and sacrifices were offered again and Hezekiah and all the people were happy because of all that the Lord had accomplished in such a short time.
