Click here to read II Chronicles 31.

Chapter 31 records the work that he did in restoring the Temple services.

  1. All remains of idolatry was destroyed.
  2. All Priests and Levites were restored to their rightful place.
  3. Maintenance was established for them.
  4. Tithing was established and collected from the people.
  5. Commissioners were appointed for managing the money.

Those who had come to Jerusalem to observe the Passover joined in a massive campaign against idol worship. They went out into the cities of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh and tore down the pagan altars.

The Priests were organized to make the sacrifices and the King personally furnished the animals for the morning and evening sacrifices. In addition he required the people to bring their tithes for the support of the priests and Levites. The people responded so graciously that huge piles of their produce came into Jerusalem and large numbers of cattle and sheep. When Hezekiah saw all of this he asked the High Priest, "Where did all of this come from?" The Priest replied, "These are the tithes from the people." Storehouses were prepared and all was dedicated to the Lord. Priests were assigned to these stores to distribute the food to the Priests and Levites and to the people in need in all of Judah, doing what was just and fair in the eyes of the Lord.
