Relief for Samaria

Chapter 7 tells of the relief that is finally brought to Samaria. They had reached a point where food was practically non-existent when Elisha prophesied that within 24 hours they would have something to eat.

There were 4 lepers at the gate to Samaria that were starving. With no food inside the city, they decide to go to the camp of the Syrians and beg for food. They decided that the worst that could happen to them would be that they would be killed. Since they were dieing anyway, that really didn't matter. So they went out to the Syrian camp and discovered that it was deserted and that all the provisions had been left behind.

The lepers informed the King of Israel but he did not believe them. He sent two men to investigate who found out what the lepers had said was true and they tracked the army of Syria to the Jordan River. It appeared that God caused the army of Syria to hear what it thought was the sound of many chariots and horses. Thinking it to be the Egyptians and Hittites teamed up with the Israelites against them, they fled their camp leaving everything behind. When the people of Samaria were informed of this, they went out and found plenty to eat as Elisha had prophesied. One of the Kings Councilors doubted Elisha and was trampled to death at the gate.
