Chapter 9 backtracks to the anointing of Jehu as the 10th. King of Israel and Hezael as King of Assyria. Hazael and Jehu were the men whom God had chosen to destroy the House of Ahab, the most evil king that Israel ever had. In this chapter Elisha sends one of the "children of the prophets" to Ramoth-gilead to find Jehu and to anoint him King of Israel. He was to tell Jehu that his job was to destroy the House of Ahab and avenge the murder of the Lord's Prophets that was ordered by Jezebel, Ahab's wife. Ahab was the 7th. King of Israel, his son Ahaziah was the 8th. and Jehoram, another son of Ahab, was the 9th. King of Israel.

Now at this time, Jehoram had been King of Israel for 11 years. He had been with the Israeli Army fighting the Syrians when he was wounded. He went to the city of Jezreel to recover from his wounds. He was the last of the House of Ahab to become king. When Jehu hears that he is recuperating at Jezreel, he rides there and Jehoram, seeing him coming, rides out to greet him. With Jehoram is Ahaziah, King of Judah. When they meet, Jehoram asks Jehu, "Do you come as a friend?" Jehu replied, "How can there be friendship as long as the evils of your mother, Jezebel, is around us?" With this, Jehoram turned and ran and Jehu shot an arrow into his heart and killed him. Ahaziah continued to run and Jehu ordered his men to kill him also. They shot him but he continued on to Megiddo where he died. He was buried in Jerusalem in the Royal Cemetery.

When Jehu entered the city of Jezreel, Jezebel was setting at a window in the Palace. When she saw Jehu she shouted to him, "How are you today, you murderer?" Jehu looked up and saw her and shouted, "Who is on my side?" Two Eunuchs looked out of the window and Jehu shouted, "Throw her down." They threw her out of the window and when she hit the ground, her blood splattered everywhere and the horses trampled her.

Jehu then went into the Palace for lunch and after lunch he told his servants to go out and bury her, but all that they could find was her skull, her feet and her hands, just as Elisha had prophesied.
