Chapter 23 records all the reforms instituted by Josiah. It also records his death while trying to protect the region around Huran from the Egyptians who were advancing to help the Assyrians. He was carried back to Jerusalem and buried. He was considered a "good king".

Josiah was succeeded by his son, Jehoahaz II who became the 17th. King of Judah. He only reigned for 3 months when he was deported to Egypt where he died.

Then another son of Josiah, Jehoiakim, became the 18th. King of Judah. He was 25 years old when he became king and ruled for 11 years. His reign was marked by evil and disobedience to the God of his father. He was repeatedly warned by the Prophet Jeremiah. He rebelled against Babylon and was eventually defeated. He died or was assassinated and given an un-mourned burial. He was nicknamed "The Wicked".
