Chapter 24 records the end of the reign of Jehoiakim. Egypt was now under the rule of Nebuchadnezzer, King of Babylon. Judah, for the most part, had fallen to Babylon. With the death of Jehoiakim, his son, Jehoiachin, became the 19th. King of Judah. He was 18 years old when he became king and ruled for only 3 months and 10 days when he became a captive of Babylon. Taken with Jehoiachin were all the Israeli craftsmen and soldiers.

Jehoiachin was allowed the freedom of the city of Babylon where he stayed for 37 years. When he left Babylon he went to Egypt where he was a guest of the King until he died.
