Chapter 2 continues the sermon. Looking back at 40 years of aimless wandering and then taking a look at the job that lay ahead. He gives them some instructions concerning some of the people that they will encounter in Canaan. He reminded them that there were some nations that they could not disturb, among them being the Edomites, the Moabites and the Ammonites. Some needed to be destroyed. The first to be conquered were the Amorites. The chapter records the victory of the Israelites over the Amorites and their king, Sihon and the killing of all his men, women and children. It also records the taking of all the land, cities and possessions that belonged to the Amorites. (The Edomites were descendants of Esau. The Moabites and the Ammonites were the descendants of Lot.)
