God Speaks to Moses and Joshua

Click here to read Deuteronomy 31.

Chapter 31 brings encouragement from Moses to the people who are to enter Canaan and to Joshua, who was to lead them. He encourages them to remember all that he had told them. Then God called Moses and Joshua to the door of the Tabernacle and there:

  1. He foretells of the future breaking of the Covenant by Israel.
  2. He foretells of the judgments that He will bring upon them.
  3. He delivers to Moses a song concerning these prophecies which
  4. Moses records and delivers to Israel.

Moses having finished his sermon seeks to encourage the people who were to enter the Promise Land and Joshua, who was to lead them. He tells them to always keep the things of God in their remembrance using the written word, delivered into the custody of the Priests and ordered to be publicly read every seventh year. He also delivers to them a song, a song that foretells of the disobedience of Israel and the judgment that they would bring upon themselves.
