Chapter 5 begins the work of deliverance. On the third day of Esther's fast, she put on her royal apparel and went in to address the King. When the King saw her he was pleased. He held out to her the golden scepter which she touched, which indicated that she was accepting his protection and was presenting herself as a humble petitioner. The King then told Esther to make her request. She requested that the King come to a banquet that she had prepared for him and bring along with him Haman.
The King honored her request and at the banquet he again asked, "What is your request?" This time, Esther requests that the King meet her the next day at her apartment and again she asks him to bring Haman along with him. The King agreed. At the banquet all went well until Haman arrived and all bowed down to him but Mordecai. This angered Haman and he had his friends prepare the gallows for Mordecai.
