Chapter 10 records the 8th. and 9th. plague. It was good that the Lord took the time to remind Moses and us why He was hardening the heart of Pharaoh. Note:

  1. He did it that He might show many signs among the Egyptians.
  2. He did it that Moses and Aaron might retell of those signs and wonders to their sons and grandsons.
  3. He did it that all might know that He was the Lord.

Then Moses went into Pharaoh and threatened him with a plague of locusts if he did not let the people go. "Tomorrow, he said, I will bring a plague of locusts into your country that will eat all that that hail has left and fill the houses of all your people. When Moses left Pharaoh, his servants tried to reason with him. "How long will this man be a threat to us?" "Do you not understand that Egypt is ruined?" This softened Pharaoh a little and he called Moses and Aaron and he asked of them, "If I let you go, who will go?" Moses answered, "Everyone must go, young and old and male and female." But Pharaoh said "No, you must have some evil purpose in mind." "I will only allow the men to go." So the Lord said to Moses, stretch out your hand and bring on the Locusts, and the locusts covered all the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh cried unto Moses, "I have sinned against the Lord your God, entreat the Lord to remove this plague and I will let the people go." So Moses stretched out his hand and a very strong west wind came and drove the Locusts into the Red Sea. But again Pharaoh's heart was hardened.

This brought on plague No. 9. This time God told Moses to cause a plague of darkness to fall upon all of Egypt for 3 days, accept where the Hebrews dwelled. Again, Pharaoh called in Moses and Aaron. "Go worship your God, take your people but leave your herds behind." But Moses replied, "We must take our herds for sacrifices and offerings," and again God hardened Pharaoh's heart and he would not let them go. This time Pharaoh commanded Moses and Aaron to leave and never return for if they did they would surly die, and Moses responded, "As you say, I shall not see your face again."
