Chapter 15 records the "Song of Phrase" to God for their deliverance (redemption) from Egypt. The Previous chapter records how victory over the Egyptians was obtained; here we are told how it was celebrated. Notice that it appears that Moses, by inspiration of God, composed the song, that it was the first of its kind recorded for us, that the style was magnificent, that it was consecrated to the honor of God and was intended to exalt His name.
In the singing of the song, Miriam, Moses' sister, presided over an assembly of the women who expressed their joy, as was the custom in those days, with timbrels and dances as they sang the song.
The chapter closes recording for us the problems that Moses had in getting the people to leave the site of their triumph over the Egyptians and to go forward into the wilderness.
