In this chapter God transports Ezekiel, in a vision, to Jerusalem to show him the wickedness of the people there that he might have a better insight into their sins and be better able to justify the judgment that God brought upon the people and the city. This insight helps Ezekiel who has just, in the previous chapter, described the miseries of the people there in Babylon to better understand the judgment. Here he sees the jealousy that existed at the Temple, the worshipping of idols by the Elders of Israel, women weeping for the pagan god Tammuz, men worshipping the sun, all of which got the Prophet wondering if these people deserved any pity to be shown toward them.
