Judgment Described

Click here to read Ezekiel 9.

In the previous chapter the Prophet saw the wickedness of the people of Jerusalem, here in this chapter, he is shown the judgment that was to come because of that wickedness. Six events are shown to him in this vision:

  1. The preparation of those who were to be used in the destruction of the city. Nebuchadnezzar, who was used by God to destroy Jerusalem, is here described as "a man clothed in linen". His army is described as "6 men with destroying weapons" in their hands.
  2. The Glory of God was removed from the Temple when the man clothed in linen went and stood by the alter.
  3. The marking of a remnant of people who were to be saved from the destruction. These few who are described as those who were ashamed of the sins that had been committed there, were marked on the forehead that they might be saved from the destruction that was to follow.
  4. The beginning of the execution of those who were not marked. Young and old, male and female, were destroyed.
  5. The Prophet's appeal for the people and the denial of his request. Ezekiel seeing their destruction, fell on his face and cried out unto the Lord, "Will thou destroy all of Israel in the pouring out of your fury upon Jerusalem?"
  6. The Prophets report concerning the matter. The chapter ends with the Prophet satisfied that the judgment was justified and pity was for naught.
