Ezekiel's Vision Concludes

Click here to read Ezekiel 11.

This chapter concludes the vision that Ezekiel saw. It concludes with two messages being given to him.

  1. A message of wrath, directed against those in Jerusalem who remained and were insolent enough to think that the city would never fall. They were assured of God's judgment.
  2. A message of comfort to those who were carried into captive into Babylon, thinking that they would never return. These were assured of God's ultimate mercy.

Notice here Ezekiel is transported to the East Gate of the Temple and there he saw 25 men who were symbolic of those who gave false council to the city of Jerusalem prior to its destruction. The assurances that the city was invincible and the sin of assuming God's mercy because of their "chosen" position. Here God assures Ezekiel that it will be destroyed and the truth of this causes Ezekiel to fall down and cry out with a loud voice, "Will you make a full end to the remnant of Israel?"

In answer to Ezekiel's question, the Lord assures Ezekiel that even though He has scattered them among the nations, He will return them to the land of Israel. To do this, He will give them a "new heart"; they will walk in His statutes and keep His ordinances.

Then the vision disappears and Ezekiel is faithful, in relating what he has seen and heard, to his listeners.
