Unanswered Prayers

Click here to read Ezekiel 14.

The hearing of the word and prayer are two great ordinances of the church and in this chapter we find some doing each but not finding the favor with the Lord that they expected. Note:

  1. Some Elders of Israel came to hear the word but because they were not duly qualified because of the sin in their lives, they were rebuked and called to repent. To inquire of God when there is much sin in a person's life, is leaving themselves open to judgment. Remember they are in Babylon and at this point in their bondage; they had prospered in business throughout Babylon. These Elders were idolaters they came to inquire only out of curiosity. Thus their requests were not honored.
  2. Noah, Daniel and Job were asked to pray for Israel but because the judgment of Israel had already been sealed, their prayers were not answered. Here we see the necessity of all to obtain their salvation. All three of the above men were righteous men in the eyes of God and were saved but they could not save their own sons or daughters. God had determined His judgment upon Israel, the sword, the famine, the beast (Babylon) and the pestilence, and this could not be changed.

Again, there is a promise of the escape of a remnant.
