The Sins of Israel

Click here to read Ezekiel 16.

In this chapter, God assures the Prophet and he wants the Prophet to assure the people, that He had not dealt with them as their sins deserved for their sins were far greater than their punishment. In the last chapter, he compared Israel to unfruitful vines that were cut off and burned. In this chapter He compares them to an adulteress that, because of her sins, should be exposed and judged. Thus God was defending what He had done to them and explaining why they had no right to complain. In the process, He:

  1. Describes the deplorable beginnings of the nation of Israel.
  2. Describes the many honors and favors that God had bestowed upon them.
  3. Describes their ungratefulness and idolatry.
  4. Describes the terrible judgment that came because of their sin.
  5. Compares their sin to Sodom and Samaria.

He again closes with a promise to show mercy to a penitent few.
