Approaching Doom

Click here to read Ezekiel 24.

In this chapter is the record of two sermons that were preached by the Prophet, both from Mount Sinai and from Mount Ebal. Both sermons speak of the approaching fate of Jerusalem. The occasion was the siege of Jerusalem by the King of Babylon and the purpose was to declare the success that he would have. Two signs are given:

  1. By the sign of flesh boiling in a pot over a fire. This showed the miseries that Jerusalem would experience during the siege.
  2. By the sign of Ezekiel not mourning for the death of his wife.
  3. This was a sign that the miseries that Jerusalem would experience were to great to be mourned, the people would simply submit in silence.
