We continue to look at the prophesied destruction of the Pharaoh and Egypt which is so wonderfully described and we begin to wonder if there isn't some special reason for it. If we look back as far as the book of Genesis, Chapter 15:14, we read that God intended to punish Egypt for oppressing His people, and though it was partly fulfilled by the plagues, yet it was even more so in this prophesied destruction. Perhaps we could look as far forward as the book of Revelation 11:8, where the great enemy of the church that makes war with the Lamb. is called Egypt. Perhaps between this destruction here prophesied and the one in Revelation, of the destruction of the anti-Christ, there is some analogy. We have two distinct prophesies relating to Egypt in this chapter, both made in the same month. The Prophet did not make these prophecies with any joy, but actually from a principle of love, mourned them. The destruction of Egypt is described by two parallels. One, the killing of a lion and the other, the funeral of a great commander.
