Instructions for Israel
The Prophet, who went to the neighboring nations as Judge, in God's name,
and prophesied to them of their impending doom, now returns with instructions
for the people of Israel.
- He first had to let them know of his calling , for which he was
accountable, as a watchman, declaring unto them, the words of the
Lord.
- He was to let them know how they stood with God, that they were on
trial and should be on their good behavior, that if a wicked man
repents he shall be saved but if a righteous man apostatizes, he
shall perish. This was especially directed at those who were
allowed to remain in Jerusalem after it's destruction, who, for some
reason, thought they were secure even though they had persisted in
their sins. Here, also, is a rebuke to those who were witnesses to
Ezekiel's ministry but were not sincere in their repentance.
