Two Prophesies About Israel
We leave the land of Edom, desolate, and return to the land of Israel in
this chapter. Here we have two distinct prophecies made, one concerning their
worldly estate and the other their spiritual estate.
- Their present deplorable conditions are described and the joy their
neighbors had in it. But again the promise is made that, in due
time, their grievances would be addressed and they would be settled
again in their own land in the midst of peace and plenty.
- Their present deplorable spiritual condition is described and they
are reminded that it was because of this that God brought judgment
upon them, but again it is promised that God will glorify Himself by
showing mercy toward them, He would sanctify them by giving them His
Grace and fitting them for His service, and He would do this for two
reasons, One, because of their prayers and two, because of His own
name sake.
