Beginning with this chapter and going to the end of the book, we have, what most scholars consider to be, the most difficult text in the Bible. The Jews will not allow any one to read it until they are 30 years old and they tell every one who does read it that they will not be able to understand it until "Elias (Elijah) comes to explain it". Many commentators have admitted that they cannot explain it nor do they know what use or application to make of it. But because it is hard to understand does not mean that we should not humbly search it out and seek God's understanding.
We have here one continued vision beginning with this chapter and continued through the rest of the book. The date of the vision was in the 33rd. year of the Babylonian captivity. These chapters are all the more important because the last two chapters of the Book of Revelation seem to allude to them. Here is a vision of a glorious Temple (chs. 40 thru 42), of God's taking possession of it (ch 43), orders given to the Priests that are to minister in this Temple (ch 44), the division of the land (ch 45), further instructions for the prince and the people (ch 46 ), the boundaries of the Holy Land, the portions assigned to each tribe and the dimensions of the gates to the city (chs. 47 and 48),
