Pointing to the Future
In this chapter we have:
- The division of the Holy Land with so much being allowed for the
Temple and the priests that attended it, so much for the city, so
much for the prince and the rest to the people. Note the holy
portion of the land shall be 25,000 reeds square, approximately 40
miles square. The Temple area would be 500 reeds square or 1,500
feet square. About 40% of the holy portion of the land shall go to
the Priests and 40% to the Levites.
- The ordinances of justice. To the princes of Israel the command was
to execute judgment with justice. They must not oppress their
subjects. They must ease their tax load. They must have just
weights and measures.
- The sacraments they were to offer and the prince' part in them,
particularly at the beginning of the year. The Passover and the
Feast of Tabernacles are mentioned.
While all this seems to be speaking in Old Testament terms, it is believed
that they point to the New Testament Church that would be set up under the
Gospel, which both in extent and purity, should exceed the Old Testament Church.
