The King's Answer to Tattenai's Letter

Click here to read Ezra 6.

Chapter 6 records the King's answer. A search of the archives in Babylon revealed that Cyrus did indeed decree that the Jews be allowed to rebuild the Temple and he instructed the inspectors to not only allow the work to continue but to contribute to its completion with whatever money or materials they might need. He also instructed them to impale upon a timber from their own house, anyone who interfered with this construction, and the man's house would became a "dunghill".

With the delivery of the edict, the Jews celebrated. The Priests purified themselves and the Passover Lamb was slain and sacrificed. Also the Feast of the Unleavened Bread was kept and they phrased the Lord for having turned the heart of the King in their favor.
