Noah's Ark

Click here to read Genesis 6.

Chapter 6 seems to substantiate that God had created other people at the time of Adam and Eve. These people are referred to as the "Sons and Daughters of Men". Adam and Eve's descendants are referred to as the "Sons and Daughters of God". God foresaw the problems that intermarriage of these two groups would cause and cut the life span of man to 120 years. The offspring of these mixed marriages were called "Ne'filim". They were giant people of extreme strength, similar to those spoken of by the spies of Israel when they returned from Canaan and reported to Moses.

Man progressed and grew steadily worst until God observed that every imagination of their heart was evil. He decided to do away with all that He had created. He declared that He was sorry that He had created them. There was one that found favor in the eyes of the Lord. His name was Noah. God revealed His plans to Noah and told him to build an Ark.

Notice the specifications of the Ark:

  1. The size: (these measurements were given in "cubits" with one cubit = 17 inches.)
    • 437 feet long.
    • 73 feet wide.
    • 44 feet high.
  2. It was to be made of "gopher wood", a wood full of resin and covered with "pitch" a sticky sap type substance used for waterproofing.
  3. It was to have a roof, one small window, one door and three decks.
