In Chapter 29, Jacob journeys on from Bethel to the home of his Uncle Laban who lived near Haran a distance of some 500 miles. There Jacob falls in love with Laban's daughter Rachel and agrees to work for Laban 7 years for her hand in marriage. Normally a man would bring gifts to the father of the girl that he wanted to marry, but Jacob had nothing so he agreed to the 7 years.
At the end of 7 years, the marriage was performed and when the veil was lifted Jacob discovers that Laban had substituted Leah, the older daughter, in Rachel's place. Jacob then agreed to work an additional 7 years for Rachel. After one week, Laban gave Rachel to Jacob, but as agreed, Jacob worked the additional 7 years.
The chapter ends with the birth of Jacob's first 4 sons, all to Leah. They were Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah.
