Going ashore, they went into Capernaum which was right on the northern edge of the Sea of Galilee. Both accounts are very similar. Both accounts emphasize the promptness with which Jesus went to work when He arrived in Capernaum.
They, meaning at least Peter, Andrew, James, John and Jesus, observed the Sabbath religiously so they attended the services there in Capernaum which they had probably done many times before. It is not likely that Jesus was a member of this synagogue but it would appear that He was known and invited to speak. We do not know what scripture had been read but Jesus expounded upon it and they were amazed for He did not speak as the Scribes and Pharisees, but rather as one having authority. Christ applied the Law out of love, the Pharisees applied the letter of the Law, without mercy.
