It would appear that Jesus and the Disciples continued on to the east, over toward the Sea of Galilee and there a large multitude of people gethered about them. They brought their sick and lame to be healed, and He healed them. The crowd had grown to some 4000 plus people and they had not eaten for 3 days. This was inductive of their need of the Word of God and the mercies of Christ.

It would appear that it was Jesus who, after taking care of their physical needs, recognizes their need for food also and has compassion upon them. He did not want to send them away hungry less they faint by the way. Notice the short memories of the Disciples. It had not been to long ago that Jesus had fed the 5000 with five loaves of bread and two fishes, yet here they question Him on how He was going to feed 4000. Verse 33, "Where are we to get bread enough to feed so large a crowd here in the desert?" That must have been very discouraging to Jesus, even so, He asks them how much food they do have. Now it would appear that the Disciples had some food, seven loves of bread and a few fish, that they had stowed away for their own needs. So He asked them to bring to Him the food.

Notice He first required a display of faith on the part of the four thousand. They were asked to set down in preparation of being fed. There were no caterers, no restaurants, no truck loads of food, how was He going to feed them, yet when He said set down and prepare to eat, they set down.

Then Jesus gave thanks and broke the bread and gave it to His Disciples to give to the multitudes. He did this inspite of their previous questions and inspite of their lack of memory of His previous feeding of the five thousand, He did this because they were and would be the Ministers of His Word even though at that time, their vision and faith was weak.

Notice that they not only fed the people but they were "filled", and still had seven baskets of food left over. Jesus provides in abundance for our needs. After feeding them He dismissed them or sent them away and got into a boat and went to the region of Dalmanutha in Galilee. This town laid some 7 or 8 miles down the west coast of the Sea of Galilee from Capernaum and was often called Magadan or Megdala.
