Chapter 2 contains the other three sermons. Verses 1 thru 9 contain the second sermon, this one made a month after the first, in which he encourages the builders and congratulates them on the vigorous way they were going about their work.
Verses 10 thru 19 contain the third sermon, which is a sermon of condemnation. Here Haggai chastises those workers who were not sincere in their efforts in re-building the Temple. He warns the spiritual leaders of the restoration that some of the workman had not sanctified their hearts and minds, they did not see the need to restore the Temple as it once was, however, God would bless their efforts because at least they were trying and had obeyed Him and was attempting to restore it.
Verses 20 thru 23 record the fourth sermon that is a prophecy with a promise; he proclaims the coming of the Messiah. Zerubbabel was concerned that he was not capable for the task of rebuilding the Temple and leading these people in the way that they should go, but God, thru Haggai, assured him that it will be well with him and his small remnant of people, he will be one of "the favorites" of heaven and one of his descendants would be the Messiah, whose Kingdom would be set up on the ruins of other nations. (In the genealogy of Christ, there were 19 generations between Zerubbabel and Joseph and Mary.) Haggai was a messenger of hope and encouragement to a leader and a people doing, what appeared to be, an impossible task.
