Chapter 2 is similar in content to Chapter 1. Again the sin of idolatry by the Israelites is condemned here. He threatens to take away their prosperity and abandon them to ruin. "Let her, therefore, put away her whoredom lest I strip her naked." "I will make her as a wilderness, I will not have mercy on her children."
Hosea prophesies that when this happens she will return to her first love for now she knows how good she had it before. The worship of idols bring very little blessings and coupled by the curses of the disobedient soon they arrive at the obvious conclusion, they must return to the God of their fathers.
When this happens, the Lord assures them that He will shower them with His mercies and He will say to them, "You are my people." Blessed assurance here prophesied for God's people.
