God's Case Against Israel

Click here to read Hosea 4.

These chapters indicate that God called Hosea to be a Councilor for Him. The format is that of a trial with Hosea presenting the case that God has against these people. Notice the charges:

  1. They were unfaithful and unkind.
  2. They had no knowledge of God.
  3. They curse, they steal and they commit adultery.
  4. There is violence everywhere and they murder one another.

Everyone was guilty, even the priests. It was their fault that the people did not know God. The more the people multiplied, the more they sinned. Wine women and song have robbed the people of their brains. Their daughters turned to prostitution and their wives to adultery. Fools! Your doom is sealed. All this the Lord said of the Northern Kingdom of Israel.

To the Southern Kingdom of Judah he said, "Do not be like Israel." "Do not join with those who insincerely worship me." "Stay away from Israel for she is wedded to idolatry." "The men of Israel finish up their drinking spries in the houses of prostitution."
