Chapter 12 records Israel's foolishness in courting Egypt and Assyria to get their help. All they get in return is worthless promises. Now the Lord is bringing a lawsuit against Israel, and the Lord will bring one against Judah also. The people are like merchants selling from dishonest scales. They love to cheat; they love to boast of their wealth. But riches cannot make up for sin. The Lord led them out of Egypt, He sent prophets to warn them, but they bitterly provoked the Lord. The Lord will sentence them to death for their sins.
