This chapter foretells of the promise of the restoration of Jerusalem in the days of the Messiah. It rightly follows the preceding chapter on destruction.
It defines further the destruction that shall befall Jerusalem were men shall be at a premium. "Seven women shall take hold of one man." This will be to remove their "reproach", their lack of children. The here promised restoration is due to the "Glory of the Lord" and bountiful crops are promised and those who remain alive in Jerusalem shall be called holy for the Lord will wash away their transgressions. Promised also is protection, security and salvation to the believer.
Thus even in the midst of judgment, mercy is promised. The "Days of the Messiah" are foretold and the Grace of the Gospel prophesied.
