This chapter describes Isaiah's discouragement. In spite of his ministry, he could see very little change in the people or the church and he became discouraged but God renewed His commission and encouraged him to go on.
Perhaps the discouragement of Isaiah in not seeing any positive results in his ministry caused his to doubt his calling, therefore God saw fit to solemnly ordain and set him apart with a more explicit commission. As a result, Isaiah became more excited and encouraged for the work that God had called him to do. Here Isaiah sees a vision of the coming destruction upon Judah. Here he hears the judgment of hearing but not hearing, of seeing but not seeing that shall befall an idolatrous and disobedient people. This lack of means to be "enlightened" will keep them from hearing and understanding thus keeping them from being converted.
Yet, in spite of this, there will be a remnant reserved for mercy (v 13). It was these things that were said and shown to the Prophet Isaiah.
