The Prophesy of The Christ

Click here to read Isaiah 11.

A great reference to Christ is found in Chapter 11 verse 1, "There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse.... Jesse was David's father. He lived and died in obscurity. Here Christ is symbolized as only a "shoot" from the stump of Jesse, signifying something less than Jesse. By the time of Jesus' birth, the House of David had been reduced to a very low estate, and was borne out by the opinion of the day, "can any good thing come out of Nazareth", the home of the house of David. Nazareth's station in life showed the obscurity and poverty of Joseph and Mary.

This promise of deliverance came at a needed time in the life of God's people. With the impending doom of destruction by the King of Assyria, there was great need of assurance of eventual deliverance. Notice wow Isaiah describes the Great Deliverer. He shall come out of the House of David. The Spirit of the Lord shall be upon him. He shall judge with truth and righteousness. His Kingdom shall be a Kingdom of Peace. His Kingdom shall include the Gentiles and with them a remnant of the Jews.

He ends with a prophesy of a return of a few from captivity to the land of Judah.
