Described as a prophesy against Damascus, the capitol of Syria, it is also aimed at Israel who had joined with Syria in efforts against Judah. Here described is the destruction of the major cities in Syria and Israel. In the midst of all this, a ray of hope is given to Israel that a remnant shall be saved from this destruction from which good will come. This was a promise from the Lord.
The overthrow of the Assyrian Army at Jerusalem is noted here, which would make this chapter better placed after Chapter 9 for the destruction of Damascus here spoken of occurred during the reign of Ahaz, King of Judah.
